I think Tierney is going to want the balance of his contract paid.

I would expect Arsenal would let him go for free now so they don't need to pay it, but then it would be us picking up the bill and calling it a signing on fee. I would imagine Rodgers would push for that if that's what needs to be done, but I could see Celtic being reluctant given the overall package will already be high and there isn't a major urgency to get him in the door.

You could see some deal where Arsenal and us split the difference.

If either of those don't happen I can see a pre-contract being signed and he sits until the summer to get his money from Arsenal.

I'd be happy to wait until the summer if it saves us around £3m.

To play devils advocate though, if we manage to get through to the play off round for the CL, Tierney at left back would be an incredible boost for us and would probably give us a better chance of getting a result.

I suppose for me it comes down to how close he is to match fitness, if he’ll take a month or two to catch up then maybe saving the money would be the better option. We’ll romp the league so I agree in that regard it’s not really urgent.

Yeah I know what you mean.

I feel like if LB was our only 'gap' in terms of being defensively solid I would 100% get him in, but right now I feel like we have this huge gap through the midfield that means no matter how strong our defensive line is they will be hopelessly exposed.

In other words if we brought in a rock solid DM to protect the back line I would 100% get Tierney in too and really make a go of it.

Thought that would be obvious, until we sign him pre-contract no point negotiating anything with Arsenal.

Has a player ever signed a pre contract with one club only to go on loan with another for the remaining period of their remaining current contract?

Dortmund and dare I say it the Huns cut through our middle like a plastic knife through ice. Time to shore up the middle. We need a proper battler in there.

Agreed, we definitely need a dynamic DM..

But, cutting through ice with a plastic knife sounds quite tough to me.. :56:

Would be fair for us to pay him £1.5million and Arsenal to pay £1.5million.

If he's on £120k a week and coming here only going to get like £30k then he's never giving up that money for another 6 month.

Arsenal have 6 guys who can play left-back Timber, Calafiori, Lewis-Skelly, Zinchenko, Kiwior, Tomiyasu so they don't need him and should be happy to have essentially half his wages saved until the summer by letting him go.

Wonder what kind of contract he'd get here given how unreliable his fitness is. £30k a week with maybe a bonus if he is in the matchday squad 40 times a season of like £250k would be fair, maybe £250k bonus if we qualify for the CL. Essentially £40k a week if we get into the CL and he's not injured for 30% of our games.
