I'm not particularly pro the signing, not anti it either. It's going to happen based on captain and manager speak.

It's a signing that could be amazing but could be a shambles too. We need to still invest in another left back.

    * must be on the wind up. Mind he was floating about wanting us to lose to Rangers this time last season so we would lose the league.

I hope he proves me wrong: unlike you, I don’t want my team or any player who plays for this club to fail just so we can all shout at Peter Lawwell.

He will be back at it next year, shouting about Lawwell signing a crock when Tierney gets injured for 6 months.

I'd love it if Tierney signs and is successful, but I just think it's inevitable it's money that will be used up which could have been spent on a player that will play an important part in our future! I'd like us to go for Valle if it's at all possible tbh, if not, someone who isn't probably going to get injured very soon.

Celtic are working on a deal to sign Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney on a pre-contract deal in January, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition ofFootball Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the Scottish giants “would love” to lure the 27-year-old away from the Gunners

The Scotland international is going to be a free agent next summer unless he signs a contract extension, which has led to questions about his future at the Premier League club.

A deal could be agreed to let Tierney move on in January, but Celtic could wait until the summer and sign their former left-back on a free transfer.

The Hoops will be able to agree to a pre-contract agreement with Tierney in January which would allow the deal to be secured ahead of summer.

Tierney returning to the club would be seen as a very popular signing with the Celtic faithful should they be able to bring him back

Football Insider revealed that Tierney is set to turn down offers from other interested clubs in favour of returning to his boyhood team, Celtic.

Multiple clubs are monitoring his situation right now, and the Gunners are expected to be open to possible loan moves which would lead to the expiration of his contract

Tierney made 170 appearances during his previous stint at Parkhead and became the club captain before being sold for a then-Scottish record of £25milloin

Brendan Rodgers is looking to bolster his squad to ensure that they’re capable of competing on all fronts.

Tierney brings plenty of European experience from his career which would be beneficial to Celtic.

Could this be a John mcginn “get him for free in the summer anyway” :85: know clubs can’t force players out but if Everton for instance offered £10 mil in January and KT 80k a week….would Arsenal make it happen? And could KT see it as being needed/wanted more?

Nah if he doesn't sign a pre contract by end of January then he's not coming. We don't need to wait until the summer to get the deal done for the summer. So we've got next month to wait. If it's not done, we know we need to go left back shopping and any links are a load of *.

Grand old team to play for
So divided in this thread. At the end of the day it's all about money and risk Vs reward.

How much would a deal for Tierney actually cost us (fee plus wages for say 4 years)?

Is there any chance of selling for a profit? Probably not.

Risk - we sign him, and he's injured most of the time.

Reward - he stays mostly fit, and we have a proper CL level left back that would run through a brick wall for the club. Homegrown. Excellent mentality and leadership qualities. Could see him really helping Frame and Anderson become the best they can be.

Then compare that to other LB options who all have their own costs, risks and potential rewards.

I would be looking to sign him for free on a pre-contract, and bringing in another younger LB in the summer if Frame or Anderson aren't ready/good enough.

We're losing Welsh as a CL homegrown player, so will upgrade on that if Brendan finds a way of game management for him.

Keep him away from that Killie pitch for example.

Why wouldn't he come if the deal isn't done by the end of the window? If its happening then I'd imagine it's pretty much verbally done.
Our team will be prioritising dealing with ins and outs that can happen this month. If he signs his contract once the window is finished it's fine

Prioritising ins and outs? Like Tierney? If they can't manage to deal with someone who wants to come, who we want, for a position we badly need reinforced then thats why it won't happen if it's not signed by end jan.

Just a feeling, not saying I'll be right.

In muy humble abd frequently inaccurate opinion this is a terrible move.

Im assuming of course that our wage ceiling (40k a week) is still in place, then Tierney would be getting every penny of that.
Not to me tion whatever signing fee and future bonuses add up to.

We could get three * LBs in for those wages, that dont have biscuit hips.
