The only thing you'd get slaughtered for is being overly harsh. Which you are being. Some of the praise being heaped on him is OTT but he didn't get beat time and again and there were certain things he done which were impressive for a European debutant.

As far as playing him over Emilio for the rest of the Season, however, not for me. We would have been a better team last night had he played. He is stronger, more energetic, more experienced and everything in between. The grass will be greener with him you can guarantee it.

Played really well, I did think he did let in quite a few crosses, on the ball very confident.

I was fearful, but did a good job.

I even thought Blackett did well when he came on.

He let in far too many crosses, that's the only thing I can fault him for.

Thought he was very good, especially considering he's an 18 year old playing his first ever European game.

I'd have him second choice left back behind behind Izzy this season, much rather have Tierney getting game time and developing than play Blackett.

There are definite signs of a good full back there, although as has been said, I thought he let the wide man get too many crosses into the box. That's a side of his game he'd need to work on.

When he was up against that no.20 he did, that * was brilliant then had to deal with Nani, he didn't get beat that much to be honest, we restricted them crossing most of the night which we dealt with very well. He's also got some leap on him.

Thought he was very composed last night. Didn't let the occasion overwhelm him like some of the pundits on the phone-in were saying last night.

Nir Bitton on Kieran's performance on Thursday night

“For a young lad to make his European debut against Nani and those type of players, he did very well and he just needs to keep working,” Bitton said.
“I wasn’t surprised that he played so well because I’ve seen him in training every day and you can see that he’s a good player.”

He did reasonably well the other night. I remember Paul Caddis having a decent game against Ronaldinho at Celtic Park as well though and Caddis never really turned into a player for us. So I'm not getting too high or too low on Tierney just yet. Need to see more of him first.

The Celtic manager said: “I saw that Kieran was a good player from the very first day I watched him. He is a big talent and has shown in training and in the matches he’s played in so far that he can operate at the highest level.

“I had no hesitation in playing him against Fenerbahce. There was not a single thought in my mind about not using Kieran. He showed me what I wanted to see and this is the start of a young man’s career as a Celtic player, take that from me.

“He does not look as if he’s just 18. That is why he played in such an important European match. He thinks and plays like a 25-year-old. This is how we want more youngsters who come through to play.

“KT has the right attitude. He wants to get better every day. He hates losing tackles. His eyes and ears are open all the time. He has such incredible ability.

“As I said, this is start of a big career for him. Kieran is going to be a big player for Celtic.”

you can only hope that is true and Ronnies praise actually materialises and young Tierney exceeds his current potential.

Fenerbache performances alone shows he has it in him to be Izzy's equal if not better in a few years.

Brilliant comments from Deila, Tierney must be chuffed seeing that sort of recognition. Getting a decent left back from ANYWHERE is really difficult so if we can get one via our own ranks then that would be something special.

Also agree with other saying he needs some time, not ready for the first team etc etc.

    Positive stuff!

Magic, hope he pushes on and cements the left back slot for himself.

Good to hear. Hope he keeps his head down and focused on the football. 18 years old, playing for the first team and being tipped for big things by the manager. Just hope he's grounded and got a good work ethic.

More youths of this level please Celtic :icon_mrgreen:

Tbh, other than Jackie Mac and Izzy I can't remember us having another left back in the team long term. (Recently)
