Would take him back here in a heartbeat, a years loan with option would be best but if they would sell for anything around 10-12mill, I think it's something we should be all over.

edit: I don't think it will go ahead but if it did I'd be right behind it.

If we're ever spending 10-15m on a player it shouldn't be someone who needs their game time managed like that, barring random injuries that can happen to anyone, you'd want them to be playing near enough every game. His injury history would make the kind of money involved an absolutely massive gamble for us.

I don't see quality as a problem TBH. He's not suited to the inverted FB role where at times you have to have the passing ability and awareness of a midfielder (as a good example, there was a goal he caused towards the end of the season by picking the wrong pass inside and not executing it well enough); but we don't seem to be doing that anymore under Rodgers. In a traditional FB role, I'd have him ahead of Zinchenko all day long because he's a better defender. He's still a quality player IMHO.

I wouldn’t say his age is an issue to be fair. He has not long turned 26 just.

If it was to be £15m for him, which I don’t think we would spend on one player anyway, but for arguments sake we will say it is that. I’d rather spend £7.5m on a left back and a goalkeeper and use £15m that way.

Are we paying 15m for him? If we can get him on a fair deal I don’t see the issue. I can’t see us spending that on any player but we paid near 5m for Bernabei and he’s done * all for us. At least we know we are getting quality with KT

It is an issue in terms of sell-on value. If he stayed 2 years, he'd be a 28-year-old playing in the SPL who didn't make it at Arsenal. That means the kind of buyers we got for, say, Armstrong (according to Google £7 million to Southampton) not the kind of bids we got for him first time around.

Then add on his injury record and potentially see that figure fall further.

Sometimes a player is more important than a sell on fee. Kyogo being a prime example. He has just signed a long extension with us which if he sees it out means we will get next to nothing, if anything at all when he is nearing the end of his contract. If we sold him now though we would likely get £15m plus. I’d still rather we got another 4 years out him though. If Tierney comes back here, he is here until he ends his career in my opinion.

We didn't need to pay anyone a fee to sign a new contract with Kyogo. Much though I love Kyogo and am very happy that he has re-signed, I'd be against spending £15 million on a transfer fee to buy him at this stage of his career.

looking at his recent injury record it’s not as bad as it is made out. He had a few consecutive knee injuries which was followed by surgery (March 22) to correct it. He’s been injury free for over a year since the surgery. He’s only 26 so we could potentially see the best of him yet. He was definitely overplayed by us while he was with us and probably had an impact on his body at the time.

Add to that the fact that BR didn’t exactly manage his fitness and injuries particularly well last time round…. ‘ran KT into the ground’ wouldn’t be an unfair appraisal.

I don't believe I said quality was a problem @Random Review. I was more pointing out if Tierney is in the 10 best LBs then him being 4th or even 5th pick in the team that bought him shows it's not as straightforwards as that. Which to be fair @McGrory1888 also clarified by talking about the potential style of play he suits.

I'd also say there is not much yet to say what style Rodgers is looking to play. The first 2 games have been a bit of a damp squib in that regard. We've been a bit shapeless so far.

Actually completely agree with your last paragraph. I’m assuming Rodgers’ wants two attacking overlapping full backs, but maybe he’ll adapt that.

I’ll probably get some abuse for this, but I’m actually a bit concerned by the lack of identity and shape shown so far in preseason and the couple of competitive games. Even as we struggled in the first few games under Ange, it was clear what he was trying to do. That doesn’t shine through under Rodgers right now.

I'm not sure about that, but I've only seen us on a couple of streams. If you've been to the games in person, you'll have a better idea of our shape than me. At any rate, Rodgers isn't daft. If he wants to play inverted FB's regularly then he won't really be after KT, it's all just paper talk and the last few pages of this thread are moot.

Wasn't at the Aberdeen game but did watch it. Was at the league opener and a bit underwhelmed with the style of play, particularly as Ross County dominated us for a period in the first half. It didn't look to me like the players had a clear idea of how they would play together and that led to a lot of short passes and dead end moves. Just not used to seeing that after 2 years of Ange. Even when he was playing youngsters right at the start they seemed to be aware of what was expected of them even if they couldn't quite do it.

Yet to see the Rodgers coaching ability in how the team play at present. Hopefully have to eat my words soon enough.

I don't think the fullbacks allow us to play the way we want under Rodgers.

It's been the major weak spot in almost every game so far, teams constantly targeting Taylor and neither him nor Ralston offering much going forward.

I do agree that we could see the style of play Ange wanted right away, but we'll get there under Rodgers, I do think it'll take a big longer mind you.

We've been banging in the goals without being brilliant overall, but remember when Ange first came in we dropped a lot of points early on, it was a few months before everything clicked and we went on a long winning run, I don't think there's really anything to worry about at this point, and we're still likely to add a couple more players before the window shuts..

Would much rather take our style still bedding in than dropping 9 points in our first 3 away games.

That's not even me having a go at Ange, circumstances obviously didn't help but that was a woeful start.

There would be no re sale value as if we did buy him he'd stay for the rest of his career.
