To be fair, I don't think the board could have done much if Tierney has told them he wants to go to Arsenal other than try and get as much money as possible for him.

£25m is a good deal for a player who - despite massive talent and potential - was well out of form and injury-plagued last season.

Also, if true about the board telling Rodgers to * off when he offered £20m for McGregor, well that shows that we aren't just going to accept to first offer we get for our players, so anyone criticising them for that supposed aspect, is full of *.

I’m with you on this, he basically said in his welcome interview down there he wanted a new challenge. Yet all over social media * saying the board stabbed him in the back, what a load of utter *.

Yeah agree, much as i'm gutted tae see him go, i think it is a great bit of business. :50:

The worry for us all now is the level of re-investment we will see, hopefully Lenny will get new players in to help the team oot.

The deafening silence in recent weeks from him was telling, he was desperate to go to Arsenal. Anyone who says otherwise after hearing his welcome interview is deluded.

Good luck to him, but I genuinely couldn't care less now - the money needs to be reinvested in the same way Lennon had to in his first ever season the way the money for Aiden McGeady did (allowed the signings of the likes of Joe Ledley, Gary Hooper, Efrain Juarez etc).

THERE is a pathway to Paradise for the young players coming through the Celtic Youth Academy, and the example of Callum McGregor, James Forrest, Mikey Johnston, and Kieran Tierney is one that should be followed by the aspiring Celts of the future.

Tierney left the club this week for Arsenal after graduating from the Celtic Academy and going on to play 170 times for the Hoops over the past four years.

And speaking today at Lennoxtown, Neil Lennon said: “I hope Kieran does brilliantly and that will reflect well on what we’re doing here

“It’s a fantastic example of the work that’s done behind the scenes here, not just at Academy level but development coaches, the first-team coaches, and the way the club is *-bent on developing their own.

“We take a huge amount of pride in home-grown players coming through, and Kieran’s the latest one. Obviously, James Forrest and Callum McGregor, and now Mikey Johnston as well, are making a significant contribution in the first-team, and that shows the younger ones that there is a pathway here.

“If you do the right things and you protect your talent, and if we recognise that the talent is there, there is a real ambition here and a real opportunity to play first-team football on a regular basis.

“It’s a very difficult thing to do, to produce a quality, long-term first-team player, but we’ve done that over the last 10-15 years very, very well compared to a lot of other clubs.”

The move, of course, has upset supporters who were obviously keen for the defender to remain at Celtic Park, and the manager recognises their feelings, but also appreciates that the Hoops have to move on, as they have done in the past when players have come to the end of their days at the club.

He said: “I can understand that point of view because they’re Celtic fans and all they see is Celtic, and with Kieran being such a fervent supporter of the club, they might find it difficult to comprehend why he would want to leave Celtic.

“But as he’s alluded to himself, he’s had a great time of it here and probably achieved everything that he’s wanted to achieve, and he’s just accepting a new challenge, a professional challenge as well as a personal challenge in his life as well.”

He added: “It’s understandable. It’s going to hurt us because we’re losing a very good player. These things crop up now and again in football. All teams sell good players eventually, and Kieran’s no different in that regard. It was protracted because we couldn’t agree a deal, but the deal’s done now and he goes with our best wishes.”

I suspect there was a clause about £25m placed in his last contract. It also wouldn't surprise me if Arsenal were made aware of the clause by someone "advising" KT. Knowing £25m was the most they would have to pay is why they tried to lowball us for weeks hoping we would bite.

NEIL LENNON insists Kieran Tierney deserves to be classed as a Celtic legend — NOT a traitor.

Arsenal’s new £25 million signing has suffered online abuse from a section of the Hoops support.

But boss Lennon said: “Kieran can go with his head held high and as a Celtic legend.
“I would imagine he will be remembered very fondly. He’s been outstanding for this club.
“He has gone for a record fee, as have others in the past like Kenny Dalglish, Charlie Nicholas and Virgil van Dijk.
“You have to put Kieran up there with them and we’re proud of the way we’ve developed him.

We live in that world now with social media, but it’s something I don’t buy in to.
“You see Kieran’s quotes. He loves Celtic, and achieved everything he could with the club in his short period of time.

From a professional point of view he sees this as a new challenge for him.

“I understand the disappointment, I share it myself, but there shouldn’t be any vitriol.

“Kieran broke into the team at 17 and never looked back.

“He’s a multiple winner of trophies, and performed on the European stage and for his country.

He’s been a very good player for us, but the club goes on. We know there are still very good players in the building.”

Arsenal done a behind the scenes stuff with his medical and testing.

On one of vertical leap tests he broke Aubameyang’s record.
