He's Scotland's best right back, centre back and left back.

He's * 20. Imagine him at 28. The physical development , the experience , the confidence. He will be truly world class.

Stand-in skipper Keiran Tierney says leading out Scotland against Holland was an "incredible feeling" and a "massive honour".

The 20-year-old was handed the armband by interim boss Malky Mackay in Scott Brown's absence as Scotland lost 1-0 to the Dutch at Pittodrie.

Left-back Tierney was moved into the centre for the contest and produced a performance Mackay described as "pretty sensational".

The captaincy is the latest accolade to head Tierney's way as the young defender's stock continues to rise.

"It was an incredible feeling," he said. "When the gaffer told me I was surprised because I'm so young but it was a great feeling.

"I had a hint a few days ago but Malky told me on Wednesday. It's a massive honour. I've captained club and country and it doesn't get much better than that.

"It's crazy, I just try to work hard, keep level-headed, that's all I can do. Where it takes me it takes me."

Scotland had 18 efforts at goal against Holland but failed to break down the visitors on a frustrating night in the north-east.

Tierney, though, saw enough signs of optimism to suggest a bright future.

He said: "I thought we done well and created the better chances. We stuck to the game plan and on another night could have scored a few goals.

"You saw it's a young squad. A few people were given debuts and it bodes well for the future."
