THE message from the Celtic squad is clear – not only do they want to replicate the success of last season, they are aiming to improve upon it.

Given that Brendan Rodgers’ side remained unbeaten domestically throughout the whole campaign, securing the treble in the process, and winning 43 of their 47 fixtures, that might appear, from the outside, to be a tall order.

But, as Kieran Tierney told Celtic TV in an exclusive pre-match interview ahead of tonight’s friendly against BW Linz in Austria, the manager’s desire for his players to keep improving will ensure that the squad do try and surpass the incredible achievements of the previous campaign.

“The message from the gaffer was - last season we did great, but that’s last season,” Tierney explained. “Now we need to replicate that, we need to work hard and we need to try and do better things

“When the gaffer came in, we were all new to what he does. Now we’re a season on, we’ve progressed a lot and we’re more comfortable going into the games this season.

“Pre-season is about bonding as a team. We’ve got a great bunch of boys and that reflects on the pitch and on the training field.”

One of the abiding images from the Scottish Cup final was Tierney reappearing on the platform at Hampden to hold aloft the trophy, shrugging off the injury to his jaw which had seen him substituted in the first-half of the game and taken to hospital.

And that passion and pride only served to further strengthen the bond between the player and his fellow Celtic supporters.

“I’ve got a gum shield that I’ve got to wear for the next five or six weeks just to makes sure that it’s all good,” he explained, “but that was a good picture for me as well. I like that one.

“You try to take it all in, what we achieved that season. It was obviously hard to take it in because it was such an incredible season but I did my best.

“I don’t think it will really sink in ‘til after I’ve retired and look back at what we achieved as a team. It was amazing.”

Delighted he has been handed the Captains armband for the second half of the friendly. It may only be for a friendly but its amazing to see him with it all the same, just trying it on for the future:shamrock:
