If clubs are looking at Hooper for @ £7m then I will be astonished if we could get anywhere near that amount for a squad player (everyone fit then he wont be starting).

I think it would be nearer the mark if we could recoup our transfer fee for him. At best. He hasnt improved and I dont think he will. And if he isnt suited to our league, which is pretty poor, then he is gonna struggle elsewhere.

Who has the highest assists rates ? how many tackles has he won compared to Ledley ? Wanyama ? Brown ? Kayal ? It's all well and good having a decent amount of goals and assists but if you do * all defensive duties then your an empty shirt for a large amount of time.

If he is being played in a position where he is in the thick of the opposition attacking, then it's just tough * if he is "offensive minded". If he was playing games behind the two/one striker, then aye - but not if he is sitting/holding midfield. It's like saying that because Izaguirre is offensive-minded then he doesn't need to be defensive.

With all due respect mate - this is the Ki thread, so I shall stick to speaking about Ki and not compare him to other midfielders:50:

He doesn't creat more chances than most people in our team. Commons, Forrest, Izzy, Stokes, Hooper... all create more.

    I know he's injured:rolleyes:

My point there was that he is not automatic first-pick in the teamsheet.....and if he is as wonderful as some of you lot make him out to be, then something sounds out of sorts :39:

That's besides the point. You said he brought nothing more than a few good passes to the team. I was just pointing out evidence to the contrary.

Well it's not really besides the point - IF as you say he is top assist etc. (can I ask where you got your stats from :50:) then my question to your pointing out against my opinion is why is he not first pick?

I made my opinion and I stick to it thank you :50:

He is one of the highest assisters in our team as well and has 8 goals this season, not totally useless but not first pick. People seem to take their opinion of Ki too far no matter what side they sit in the debate.

I'm a fan but I want as to sell in the summer, Asian player of thr year, talented, young, experienced International player.

He is our most expendable asset. I would be looking for at least £7m.

There's the stats going by assists. For me it's between Ki and Commons for the free role and Commons is more suited to it.

    13 starts 10 assists
    21 starts 6 assists

Don't know how accurate these are right enough. Ki has more goals though, but look at Commons last season. He'll be back to that again hopefully.

ki is always one of those players who will split the support (as this thread proves).

i'm happy with the lad, dont want him going anywhere, but at the same time can get as annoyed as the next guy when hes not at the races.

what i will say though is the boy has the potential to be a good, maybe even great, player in a european league such as italy or germany.

A lot of people on this site * to Barcelona and its passing strategy. Don't know if you are one of those, but most people on here are. So I think this is a fair question: why do people want Ki to focus more on his defensive duties, if they like technical football so much? Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas...they aren't great in defensive sense. Offensive footballers through and through. Yet their defensive weaknesses are not criticised on here. Fair enough, because I wouldn't care about that when looking at them, either. But why pick on Ki's defensive weakness then? Leave him be the offensive player/passer he is. Not trying to say he is as good as the Barcelona trio- I'm just saying the playing style is similar.

Iniesta, Fabregas and Xavi work there arses off and have great positional sense.

    Stupid comparison.

Whether he is first pick or not is irrelevant both to your assertion that is contributes very little and my statement that he contributes goals and assists.

Stokes contributes tons of goals and assists yet is not automatic first pick. It doesn't necessarily reflect on his worth as a player.

Not really. Their midfield needs Mascherano/Keita/Busquets to be balanced. Otherwise it is dodgy in the grafting sense. Rangers are the other extreme. Selling Ki could leave us with an option less for possession football.

You honestly think they don't work off the ball?

Not really, Kayal, Ledley, Wanyama and Broony are all capable on the ball and put in the required disciplined performances. Ki doesn't know how to act defensively yet, I like bim but he does have his weaknesses.

They will be joined mext season by McGeough, Commons, Paddy, Forrest...
