Funny how he wasn't "dropped" he went away to the Asian tournament.

Maybe not weak link, but ledley was getting some stick during that period, for hiding in games, Ki was certainly the more impressive of the 2 before christmas, dont get me wrong tho, i do like ledley too, had a good 2nd half of the season

The midfield got better when Kayal regained fitness, and we stopped playing 2 full-on wingers.

Ki was never 'dropped', he lost his place because he left for asia, if he hadn't left then there's every chance he would have had a run of games next to Kayal and they would be our first choice pairing rather that Kayal/Ledley.

He's hardly put a foot wrong all season.

It was to the clubs benefit that he left then. Although he was arguably our best performing midfielder prior to going to the AC (Nov/ Dec time, not half the season), we were not firing on all cylinders and there were serious grumblings and malcontent during the 5 game spell where we dropped 9 points.

And if he hadnt left for Asia, your right, he may have got a run with Kayal, but then again, maybe not as Ledley has probably been our most consistent player since Xmas.

I wouldnt say he's hardly put a foot wrong all season either, prior to Xmas he was (and still is) very one paced and slowed the game down far too much. Occasionally got caught on the ball and couldnt track back or tackle. He still cant. A few studs up challenges havent improved that for me.

To say he was "fantastic" before Xmas is looking at the first half of the season through Ki coloured eyes.

Zander, your right, Ledley didnt play particularly well 1st half of the season either, it may be Ki going and Kayal coming in helped him as well.

There are still people who go on about his passing in games, yet I dont recall any killer passes where he has set up a goal for anyone, I could be wrong, but nothing stands out. And to say he doesnt give the ball is not right, as I said, he doesnt play any killer passes to give the ball away. Does that make him a good passer? Or a safe one? Neil Lennon rarely gave the ball away, but no-one ever said he was a great passer of the ball in the same way that they do of Ki.

Good Player doesn't lose the ball gets stuck in when he has to but can't put my finger on it something missing from midfield when he plays, however has bags of potential, plus financial gain from the Asian market and our initial outlay for him think he should be looking more near the 5-6 million bracket, hate the Epl thinking they're shopping in Lidl pay the money we deserve

ok so ki was the problem with celtic? i dont think so. Personally i think the signing of commons and inclusion of kayal was the reason why we did so well during jan/feb. I would also like to point out the excellent start to season we had with ki in the squad (except like 3 games in december)

I feel the same way although I do like Ki as a player. One thing that I think it may be is that he always seems to fall really deep to take the ball off the CB's leaving us a man short further up the field.

I know somebody has to take the ball from them but he seems to go too deep and takes it from them when they're under no pressure at all meaning that the other team always have eleven men behind the ball. Perhaps it's that, or perhaps I'm talking * :icon_mrgreen:

Finding the idea a lot harder to articulate than I thought I would when I started :56:

no he does seem to fall very deep to get ball from cb's. a lot of players do it in italian league but doesnt work as well in spl. he'll learn

    Let's start from

    1) a killer pass to Hooper, which Hooper chipped over but couldn't score, and someone in talkceltic even made a GIF for this

    2) Lob pass to Samaras in Old Firm.

    3) Absolutely wonderful jaw dropping pass to McGinn(not sure if it was McGinn tho), but McGinn failed to score.

    4) Lob pass to Murphy

And there's many many many more. Yes, he hasn't set up a goal from those, but surely, he has set up a lot of goal chances with his killer passes.

Some of your arguments are very vague and subjective. And ultimately, it's wrong.

that sentence sums up our season for me, once Lennon realised we needed a bit more bite in midfield we dominated midfield in all games and this in turn saw our defensive record improve big time.

same again for next season please!

when we're 2 or 3 goals up with 20 mins to go then we can unleash the likes of Forrest or Paddy or Maloney on tiring defences, we'll need the team to be out working their opponents up to that point.

all these great midfield players and we lost the league to one of the smallest Rangers squads in living memory.

Do we over hype our players?

A small side, but doesnt mean they werent a good side. They accumulated a lot of points considering how small their team was.

Us and Rangers have a good team. However they have arguably the best player in the league in terms of effectiveness in McGregor. I can't remember the last time a player won a team so many points in a season. Jelavic also helped carry them through when he came back.
