Surely with the amount of cash we have received this transfer window we are looking at better quality than Doyle....i really don't want to see him in a celtic jersey, back up player or not, seem's like a waste of wages.i would rather give some of youngsters more game time and sign a quality striker to replace hooper, some of the names we are being linked with ie Rudnevs,Finbogasson,Vossen are all proven goalscorers,if we are going to continue the 4-5-1 system in europe we need a proven striker up front,To be linked to Doyle is quite embaressing to be honest as much as we are a massive club, signing 29 year old league one players with a scoring record to make Sebo look like Hernan Crespo isn't filling me with confidence

i'm sure he would be a decent player in SPL he has good work rate and link up play but he is not a goalscorer and after hooper leaving we need to find a 20-30 goal a season striker and Doyle is not that man,i trust our signing policy but there is a few players we have been linked with who i am,for once, not impressed with

That's your personal opinion, in mine Doyle has a better pedigree against better opposition over a longer period of time than Russell and just needs a fresh challenge in his career after stagnating at Wolves.

Murphy turned out to be a poor signing but he was a Premiership target man, a Celtic fan and ticked a lot of boxes prior to signing. He didn't work out, we moved on.

going by your logic then mate, Jon Daly , scored 20 goals last season , Irish, celtic fan ticks all said boxes and he was free, why didnt we give him a go

Lennon said he wanted a target man as an option, the guy always bullied our defence anytime we played Dundee United, if the road we are going down is inferior players then daly would have been ideal

Think most people on here are RoI supporters or have a soft spot for them, so there's likely nothing malicious going on towards Doyle. Think the stick he's getting is more indirect at the Board, and the market value of players we're pursuing. In my own case, it's that and a touch of "would've preferred you a few years ago," which never sits well.

I hope he turns into RVP for Ireland for the time he has left, but I wouldn't want him as a starter for Celtic, and would prefer players with more upside on the bench.

We didn't give Jon Daly a go because he's *.

Murphy played over 100 games in the Premiership and has caps for Ireland, the highest level Daly has played it is Hartlepool. If Murphy wasn't good enough then neither is Daly, we're trying to progress not regress.

so a 500k bid for kevin doyle isnt a regression then ? if lennon signs him he will play every week he'll be shoe horned in somewhere.

The fact we are even entertaining the prospect of parting with cash to get him is pretty worrying.

If he signs I am sure he will do ok but the fee and wages would be far better utilised elsewhere.

Almost all of the team that took us to the Champions League last 16 were cheap options. Spending big money (in our terms), does not always mean that the player will turn out to be a good buy. I don't see Boerrigter as a cheap option in all honesty. To get someone of the same quality down South, they would probably cost 3 or 4 times as much as he did. I think it will be a very good signing.

Even if we sign doyle , he'll do doubt end up playing left wing, lennon seems to have every striker turning into a left sided winger, sammy plays there, stokes drifts out there, hes even started playing tony watt on the left wing.

The boy from ajax will be our new centre forward:smiley-laughing002:

If we could have Doyle playing anything like the way he did at Reading a few seasons ago, half a million quid is nothing. It is pure conjecture to say he'd play every week as well, did Murphy after it was found to be a poor signing?

He scored 55 goals in 155 games at Reading. Hardly prolific.

Rumour reaches us we are about to break our transfer record. We don't quite believe it either but we've shared it.

He'd be on big wages, if he comes he's not here to sit on the bench. This would show a real lack of ambition for me, and would be a boot in the balls for us fans.

You really think we can? cause I don't, no point in getting someone in with higher wages when we have some really good youth players who could try and make the step up

1 in 3 in the Prem for a * team for a guy not considered an out and out striker is good.

Over and above that though, the big boys wanted him and he was second only to Fabregas as YPOTY. He was a cracking forward at one point, folk seem to forget that.
