I would personally like to see Hooper allowed to see out his contract. * it. Let's keep him for another season. Hopefully his goals help us qualify for the CL this year. We only paid 2.5 million. We have got our money's worth out of him and lots of goals too. It also allows Balde a season to Learn the team players and systems and settle.

I agree with this, if he stays another Season and bangs in 20-25 goals then I am happy for him to go for nothing.

We have allowed some great players, who served the club well over the years leave on a free. Henrik, Naka, JVOH. What's just keep him to the final year of the contract. Bang the goals in. Join the hundred club and another successful run in Europe. I think that is want Lenny will do.

Surely I can't be the only person who'd rather see him leave? His general lack of commitment on the pitch from about January to April was an insult to the club. I'm not forgetting the service he's given us before (and since) that period, but there have been too many times where he's given up the ghost (2012 League Cup final against Killie being probably the best example).

It's not just that: I think there are much more complete strikers out there. I know he does offer a bit more than just goals, but compared to the other 3/4 strikers we have, he's the most limited. I'd rather see us bring in another 'workhorse' type striker, and a playmaker who can score, than invest in a poacher to replace Hooper. Give me 3/4 guys who'll score 15 or so goals each in a season than 1 dude who'll get you 30. That's the way the modern game's going in everywhere but Britain. The days of 'get it to x and he'll get the lion's share of our goals' are fast disappearing in Europe.

    Commitment my *
I don't care if the guy sat in a * deck chair for 80 mins then got his goals.
Hooper is the first striker since larsson i have felt happy with up front, believing he will score most games for us.
I think if we sell wanyama then there is a chance but it will take one * of a pay rise. But i won't be surprised if we lose them both.

In modern continental football, that's a very backwards attitude. Why do you think Gomez never gets a game for Bayern any more? Mandzukic just does more, despite actually scoring a bit less. The more our attacking players commit to the game, keep the ball, and provide each other with chances, the more we keep other teams off the ball (provided we do it properly), which will be useful in Europe against teams who play possession-based football.

Having a guy who's going to score in most games is good; having 4 hard-working attacking players on the pitch who between them will get you more than that is better.

...and - to go back to your point about sitting in a desk chair for 80 mins then scoring - that wasn't what I was referring to when I was talking about his 'lack of commitment' during Jan-April. I was referring to the fact that he didn't look interested, and as a result rarely scored or did much else of any use to us during that time.

So you'd have been happy for us to sign Monster Munch then?

I think Hooper might be stayin, I think he's disappointed with the clubs that have been lookin him like let's face it, Hull will more than likely be in a relegation battle, ya never know wat way players will react at Sunderland to di canio, could be another relegation battle for them! An was Forest the other team def no point in goin to championship! I don't see how playin for any team that would be playin bottom half premiereship would help! better to stay with us sign a contract an but in a few good shifts in Europe get his 30 goals in Scotland an hope he gets an international call up

I would really welcome this, get him to the top earners and give him a contract till
16/17 and hold him here for atleast 1-2 years

Why does he not just sign a new contract, get a bit of a wage rise and join the 100 club, plus more experience in Europe, he surely can't be scared no one will want him, strikers are always in demand, he may want a chance at the World Cup squad next year but what teams are really going to project him to that level? Hull under Steve Bruce? No the only team in the bottom half of that league that would guarantee him goals is Crystal Palace, they'll be open and create plenty chances but I doubt he'd get a call up if they get relegated, the top 10 teams won't go for him because they think they have better(some do, some don't) in an ideal world he'd get called up along with Forster by playing for us because they're better than anything that's playing in the EPL and perform very well in the Champions League but the English ignorance won't allow for that to happen, I'd rather see him stay and see out his contract than let him go to a poor side for 6 million and we lose out on Champions League money

surely he could extend his contract with a jump-out agreement, where we must accept bids like 10m+

For me it's simple. How much would we get for him now with 1 year to go in his contract - £5m/£6m? If Gary saw out his contract and then left in 12 months, we would lose £6m max + about £1m in salary but how much would we gain in £'s with his goals in the CL. If it's more, then keep Gary and let him see out the contract. If we think it will be less then do the biz now for £5m and save another £1m in salary. For me, we need him in Europe.

If it meant selling Vic and getting Hooper a new deal that would be fantastic

With Wanyama certain to go :54:, I hope we use a fair chunk of the money to offer Hooper a contract that might tempt him to stay. If he doesn't sign an extension, he has to go but.

Ok drop him and put sami back up front, his work rate is good and he has commitment coming out of his *...but you will get less goals.
goals is all that matters he can have a * game and get a goal or be man of the match but not score.
I know what i would rather.
Yes some strikers have both but i doubt celtic can afford them.
