That fingertip save was brilliant, kept us in the game.

I genuinely don't think he's to blame. CCV just stares at Kuhn's feet for over a second. It's 100% on CCV for ball-watching.

Kasper Schmeichel refused to blame Cameron Carter-Vickers as he brushed off the nightmare own goal conceded in the Champions League draw against Club Brugge.

The Celtic No1 revealed he had screamed at the centre-back to warn him but, unaware, Carter-Vickers rolled the ball into his own goal.

It was a calamitous start for Celtic but the Denmark internationalist insisted there will be no dwelling on the mistake.

"It's one of those things," he said. "I'm showing for Nicolas, I think Nicolas is going to pass to me.

"I think Nicolas does well to get the pass to Cam but I think he is surprised by it and obviously, he is getting pressed.

"It's so loud in here that he hasn't heard me that I'm screaming that I'm not in.

"It's one of those things, we just move on. It happens."

In the aftermath, Schmeichel gathered his team-mates - with the help of captain Callum McGregor - for a mental reset after a sluggish start to the league phase contest.

He explained: "I think it is important when things aren't going [well], any time there is a chance in the game to just mentally reset to say, 'Listen, we are getting caught too many times in a mid-block. Either we go and we press high or we stay and defend'.

"They were having a little bit too much time on the ball, a little bit too much joy so it was important for us just to shore things up a little bit and get to halftime so we could restructure."

Asked whether a point was a fair result, the Celtic shot-stopper said: "Probably on reflection, We weren't ourselves in the first half, we didn't get up to the tempo of the game or get to the intensity that we know we can.

"Luckily we had half-time to change that, changed our press a little bit and things got better in the second half."

The result takes Celtic to eight points in the league phase after five matches with the club still in the qualification spots for the knockout rounds in 20th.

Schmeichel, though, reckons the points haul could have been higher.

"I think there were chances for us to win tonight," he said. "Reasonably happy

It's exactly why a top class keeper is required, any of Gordon, Bain, Barkas, Hart in goal tonight and we lose, finally got a top level shot stopper again since Boruc and Forster

The goal was on CCV he quite simply has to have a better awareness of what’s around him, even though he shouldn’t have been getting the ball off Kuhn in the first place.

Didn’t get a proper view of his save start of the second half as I was in the opposite end of the stadium but it looked incredible. He’s absolutely vital to our team, a proper leader in there.

Showed how big a leader he is last night. That save at 1-0 down is unreal and it allowed us to then get a point. That goes in and it’s game over. Him screaming for the team to all get together after the goal was class as well.

Arguably, the best signing Brendan has made over his two spells, this is exactly what Brendan was looking for when he signed DDV in his first spell, a keeper completely comfortable with the ball at his feet, added to that that Schmeichael is also top shot stopper and we've won a watch, very shrewd piece of business, * knows why Nice and Anderlecht didn't do a lot more to keep him

No disrespect to big Joe Hart, but the season would be looking different had we continued with the big man once again, the biggest difference to this season from last is Schmeichael, many would say the form of Kuhn, but the immense confidence Schmeichael breeds throughout the team allows everyone to play with total freedom and not be on edge knowing they don't have anyone reliable to bail them out if need be

Really, really hope we squeeze every last drop out of what remains of Schmeichaels career

Surely signs on for next season and finishes his career here now. In a period of time where some of our transfer business has been incredible to say the least, signing him on a free is arguably the best of the lot. For me as an all round goalkeeper he’s several levels above anything we’ve had in a long, long time.

More confident on the ball than the majority of midfielders in our league and his handling is absolutely outstanding. Can tell he’s also a proper leader in the dressing room. As much as I loved Joe Hart the difference with Schmeichel in goals is ridiculous both domestically and in Europe.

We’ve seen hart flap and panic in those conditions last night. As others have said, schmeichel just breeds confidence and calmness collecting everything and setting the tempo

    Immense..

Don't know how a keeper can spray it about so comfortably in conditions like that and be so cool with everything that came his way..

    Unreal..

Never felt as comfortable with a GK in a long time.

Used to * myself when we passed it around the box with any of our previous 5 goalkeepers, but not with Schmeichel, zero worries.
