It's his decision making that has impressed me.

Usually, goalkeepers are notorious for making * mental decisions and making an * of it, but Schmeichel always seems to do the right thing, from his passing to his positioning to coming for crosses etc.

Top goalkeeper, and good leader, great guy to have at the club.

Without a doubt he was immense. Gave us the platform to be able to grind out a vital win.

    https://www.tipsbladet.dk/nyhed/generelle/schmeichel-i-storform-venter-en-ny-kontrakt

Celtic have had a flying start in the Scottish league, where Kasper Schmeichel has only conceded three goals.

That is why it was also a big-smiling Schmeichel who showed up at the national team camp to talk to the press on Tuesday.

Here, Tipsbladet asked him about his current form.

    - I am very satisfied. I have been playing really well and I love being part of the team. It's a cool style of play that we have, and it suits me really well, Kasper Schmeichel tells Tipsbladet.

I am very satisfied. I have been playing really well and I love being part of the team. It's a cool style of play that we have, and it suits me really well, Kasper Schmeichel tells Tipsbladet.

The 38-year-old Dane is delighted that Celtic can perform both in the big matches in the Champions League and the slightly smaller matches in the domestic league.

    - We've had a good start, but it's not about how you start. I can't complain. We play really good football. The past week has been characteristic for our team. In pre-season we beat City and Chelsea, and then we took it further and beat Leipzig in the Champions League.

    - We are in a good place and we can play many different types of matches.

Anything but a win is a failure'
Schmeichel has become part of a huge club where there is enormous pressure in every match. The experienced Dane thrives on this, however.

    - Anything but a victory is a failure

I feel super cool about that. It's a completely different type of pressure than what I've been used to in my career. It is a new experience.

The Dane has a contract with Celtic until the summer of 2025, and time will tell what will happen to Schmeichel in the long term.

    - One thing at a time. It is an option for another year, but we will take that at some point next year

Spain awaits on Friday, and here Schmeichel has learned from the first match, which ended 1-0 to Spain.

    - We must never become passive. We must not wait.

Sure hope that both ourselves and Kasper pick up that option. His form has been superb and his ability with the ball at his feet has really added an extra dimension to our ability to play out from the back under pressure.

I hope he stays and we introduce the boy who’s name I can’t spell (the Finnish goalie), but my biggest hope is he, and the coaches, are concentrating on how he works with the ball at his feet.

Might be unpopular but I think he has to take a bit of the blame for the goal.

Why he’s still standing out of his goal after not receiving the ball from the right hand side is baffling to me.

That said, the save to keep us at 1-0 down was world class.

Not for me. I think Schmeichel has to offer Kuhn an angle. It might be different if Kuhn had released the ball immediately; but Kuhn held the ball quite a long time. CCV had more than enough time to scan and he didn't do it. He was staring at Kuhn's feet for about half a second.

Watch Bernardo and Valle in similar situations, I genuinely think they probably scan twice in the time Kuhn holds onto the ball. CCV just stares at the ball waiting for the pass.

I agree on the save, though. What a save that was.

Edit: I just watched it back and it was worse than I thought. CCV is just staring at the ball for more than a full second.

Big man makes us tick, and saved a certain goal.

Can be happy with his performance, although would need to re-watch that vickers OG again to see what the * happened.

Really love him, but he was at fault for the goal, tbh.

Can’t blame a CB, when playing the sort of back pass the team trains for every day, for expecting his goalkeeper to be in a position to get to it.

I understand Kasper will probably have been asked to show for a pass at every available opportunity (in order to play a good ball forward himself). I also understand how he might have thought that coming so wide to receive the pass from Kühn could help him angle a first-time cross to the right-wing to put an attacker through.

However, you’re the goalkeeper, and you know there’s every chance the ball is about to come to your defender instead of to you. He should’ve been nowhere near that far out.

Ultimately, though, he also stopped what would have been a goal against the majority of other keepers.

Aye I think he has to take some blame for the goal.

    But what a save.

If I'm being honest to see us come back from that sort of mistake and not crumble was encouraging and shows we've learned. The fact he ran up after it and got the team together with mcgregor was great.

The own goal is all on Carter-Vickers. Schmeichel was showing for a pass so Kühn didn't have to play a dangerous pass straight across goal.

Watched that goal again. Tbh I think he was going wider into space to receive a pass with the intention to clear it. Lack of communication between him and CCV for sure but that one's on CCV.

I've kinda lost memory of his part in the goal already..

Was one of those mental things you barely see..

His passing is phenomenal. Better than plenty outfield players..

Some save as well. Top top keeper..
