OK, I can see the argument that less evidence is needed for something that is plausible a priori (as opposed to if, for example, Scott Bain made that 1 save and we all started raving about him) and that's a valid point; but I still think that a single data point is too little to judge it on, even for something as inherently plausible as Schmeichel still being good.

 

I explicitly mentioned that even taking saves out of the equation, everything else has been top class. That is addressing your point, which was as I said, ridiculous to start with.

As for offering an extension barring some kind of serious injury or drastic loss of form that'll be a given based on his all round contribution so far I reckon DD.

 

But who is even disputing that? I certainly don't disagree. Nevertheless, saves are a goalkeeper's bread and butter. Would you rather have prime Fraser Forster or prime Doris DeVries in goal?

I didn't say that it can be determined by saves alone. Saves are clearly not a sufficient condition to be classed a great goalkeeper; however, they are a necessary condition.

And we're not debating anything else, because I already agree with you about the other stuff.

He's only conceded 2 goals in 7 games. Both goals have been world class efforts. Unsaveable.

He's absolutely class and doesn't look like he's lost any of his ability between the sticks.

 

Ah C'mon DD calling that now isn't much to boast about given what we can see.

 

Couldn't do anything about the goals (the first was a superb finish tbf) but made an excellent save late in 2nd half. Some excellent distribution again.

 

I reckon he was poor for the first, boy was a few meters outside the box. perhaps a tad unsighted but just reckon he should have done better. Absolutely nae chance with the second.

 

Same, touch of the Jack Butlands to it. Some of his distribution was really poor today. Been a real positive in other games so guess you need to accept that'll sometimes happen.

 

The first goal was a great finish. He wasn't to blame for either goal for me

 

The shot was low, had decent power and curled perfectly into the corner though. Is it still saveable? Yeah if you fully anticipate it and have clean sight of the ball which on seeing the replay, Schmeichel didn't.

It's not one to beat Kasper over the head with and sometimes you just got give credit where it's due to the finish.

 

As if people think he should've got to the first.

Comparing him to Butland? Laughable.

Then people having a pop at his distribution. I thought it was poor, too. However the stats don't lie. 95% short and 75% long pass completion is hard to beat.
