My opinions.

Does this signing make me excited no, Does it disappoint me no. He's the Danish number1!. They qualified from the group with Schmeichel in net and lost only 2-0 to a very good German side. Is he the long term option no I really hope the guy we wanted just wasn't available this window and we look to bring him in either January or next summer.

For the people saying but he's older than Hart, I agree it's not ideal but Neuer is 38 years old and still preforming at the highest level by no means am I comparing Kasper to Neuer but Kasper isn't near done yet he still has a few years in him whether it's 1or 2 but I'll back him and it also tells his mindset he knocked back decent money in Suadi to be here this isn't a quick buck this is something he wants to be apart of

 

I'm not against it. Still a good keeper and I'd rather him than the boy that can't get a game ahead of him for Denmark but it's just the way we go about things. Knowing Hart was away 6 months ago yet looks like we've fumbled around at the last minute targeting cheap options forcing Rodgers to call in a favour.

 

We have just lost a massive character from the dressing room in Hart. This is a good signing. Schneichel will fill that void.

It is getting harder to persuade players at the peak of their careers to come and play in our league unless you blow your wage structure to pot.

He easily still has two years in the tank and will further allow Brendan to identify a long term goalkeeper.

He is also a boon from a marketing and club profile perspective too.

 

Not good enough for brendan at leicester but good enough for Celtic, how low have we sunk

 

You know it's true though.

KS is fine, if he's still on his game.

But Hart just retired at the same age, for fear of hanging on too long.

I'd be very very worried about KS treating this as a last attempt at pay day.

On his day, good keeper, no doubt.

But 6 months to find a replacement for Hart and this is all we come up with? Pathetic from the club.

They really better be bringing in a 20something keeper alongside him to take over.

I like him a lot, not against this at all. It is obviously kicking the can down the road but we're getting a big character with loads of experience who can fill that Hart-shaped void. Showed he's still a very good keeper at the Euros too.

Get a younger one in alongside him though, please.

 

Eh? Schmeichel was number 1 for the entirety of his time at Leicester.

 

He had a very decent Euros and one game I can't remember which, he was superb.. remember someone joking on here saying we should sign him, as in we'd have no chance..

Not overly excited but he will do a job for us I reckon.. another player I think that will give 110%. Hart type character too..

Until he was sold in the summer window and replaced with Danny Ward (they also signed Iverson from Preston) and got relegated funnily enough.

 

Fact this came out of knowhere until it's just about complete means we've no leaks. That is good news.

 

I'm not surprised at the frustration of signing a 37yr old on a free but I am surprised at people thinking we're signing a poor keeper. It's the sort of thing people said about Hart and he was far better than people gave him credit for too

Is it a lazy signing? Aye. Does that make it a bad one? No. He's also a big character, captain and leader and I'd argue that's more important to replace in Hart than anything else.

 

Happy with this tbh. As long as he's not the only keeper we sign this summer. Would've preferred someone younger, but as others have said, being younger doesn't make you better.

 

In fairness it was rumoured a while ago we were about to sign a Danish keeper, just no one ever imagined it was KS

 

If he maintains his Euros form, we will have upgraded on Hart. But this is a kick of the can down the road. Rodgers seems to only think about players who've been in England when he's doing transfers.
