Not being an *, but why does the time of it all make a difference?

As soon as we’re linked with a player, with stats, scouting reports and footage so readily available these days, it’s not difficult to have a grasp on the potential ability of a player.

Same way Nygren immediately looked a good signing. It was evident very quickly the quality he has and what he can offer us.

Just don’t see the attraction with another centre half who isn’t the most mobile. We’ve just got shot of two in Lagerbielke and Nawrocki.

Aside from the pace stuff. The stats seem to indicate he’s not a good ball carrier. Think we really need someone who can take the ball out of defence and beat the opposition press.

CCV is the defensive brick wall. But he’s not particularly good on the ball. A partner who can move the ball and progress us up the pitch is vital.

Watched De Haas video twice now. He looks like he reads the game very well and has good positional sense, bit like Nygren has.

De Haas could be a hidden gem at £3M.

Yep agree, we haven't really replaced that. Scales can do it sometime but ajer was brilliant at it. Broke the lines and committed players to shut him down.

See being fair, I agree with the comments others have made to get a centre back who is left sided, has a presence, reads the game well, decent pace and can carry or pass it out well you are probably out of our price range.

So we will have to compromise on something. To me with the high line we play pace is probably one of the things that we would minimally require our centre back to have. I am not talking about being really fast but more not being slow. CCV is physical but limited on the ball as others have mentioned, the return of Tierney is interesting as he is a ball carrier as Johnston is on the other side so where it be great to have one at centre back it may not be that essential. I would like someone who is a better passer than Trusty but Schmeichel at least for another year being good on the ball does help us there, if we could improve the number of players midfield forward who can actually receive a pass.

I actually think the left sided defender being a left footer is something we could compromise on. Most of our most successful defensive pairings have not had one, Van Dijk and Denayer, CCV and Starfelt, Julien and Ajer were pretty solid most of the time too. It would open up the pool of players to target, as a number of right footers are used to playing left sided centre back.

Basically I don’t expect us to sign a centre back that can do everything but from the footage and stats on De Haas I am not massively convinced he improves on what we have.

Youtube videos can be deceiving but it's quite evident that he's a bit stiff and rigid tbh.

Obviously most guys at 6ft 4 you'd expect that. Thats fine. But it's not the type we need back there. We could get someone even a wee bit smaller who could turn a bit quicker or was faster.

He may well have had a good season over there but I'd imagine that's for a side who are more defensive than we would be and perhaps don't play as high up the pitch. Could of course be wrong.

This is all the things you would EXPECT the scouts to consider. Is he right for us..

What I find is actually a good marker to work out how fast someone is is fifa stats. They’re 95% accurate most of the times and only usually wrong when it comes to kids who have hardly played any professional games.

based on that, they have de haas as a slow centre half

Because it took less than an hour for people to say he's not for us, partly based on a fan made video on YouTube.

I'm not going to argue he's secretly fast, he could be a slower CB, but I'd hope our scouts have done their due diligence with the Lagerbielke mistake and he's faster than him at least, hopefully quicker than Scales as well.

I get with Inamura it was a lot more obvious he wasn't ready for us. Putting it nicely, he was built like the side of a fiver, but this guy has supposedly had two excellent seasons in a much better league and has seemingly not made any errors leading to goals. Clearly would add some much needed physicality to our back line too.

As I said earlier, there's a real negativity on here that's a lot worse than recent years. Maybe it's our past transfer windows catching up to us, but after what's been a good start in the window, you'd think people would be a bit more positive.

It's all a mute point until these guys even sign tbh, I guess we'll wait and see. If we sold Trusty and replaced him with this guy I'd be a bit worried tbf, but if he's a replacement for Scales, i'd be fairly happy with that

Ability to play out from the back depends on his team and how they're set up too. As currently at a midtable team he may have been told to play conservative .
As long as he can play 10 yard quick passes to McGregor he'll be fine

Was a joke, no idea who he is and doubt anyone's feeding official info to anyone to dish it out on a forum.

Looks like we would be hard pressed to find a CB less suited to us based off the videos

The good season starring Justin de Haas in the service of Famalicão caught Celtic's attention and paved the way for a proposal that, according to the Scottish press, will be presented soon. According to the information conveyed, the Glasgow emblem will be willing to disburse €3.5 million to convince the Minhos to release the player.

Last season, Justin de Haas played 30 matches at the service of Famalicão and was a cornerstone from a defensive point of view, and he still scored two goals.

Part of me kinda likes the idea of just having a sturdy big CB who keeps it simple back there. He can't be THAT bad on the ball you'd hope if we've scouted him properly.

I'd still prefer the other guy from Le Havre. Sign both, punt Scales and loan Murray.

Hopefully we're signing both and punting Scales alongside Welsh.

Would be great. Issue is keeping them happy as its not an area of the park you want to swap about and rotate too often. However that's the risk you take when looking for strong depth.

I think that's why you need to keep a player in there, like Scales.

I don't dislike Trusty but I do think that he's came off a semi successful year, he's had a few changes in his personal life with becoming a dad and getting married and I thought he may want the opportunity to go back across to the States and be closer to family etc. With that in mind, I think you could get a decent fee for him back, you bring De Haas instead and keep Scales. Murray there as the 5th choice.

So CCV, Youte, De Haas, Scales and Murray. Scales and Murray would clearly be happy being part of the squad or rotational options. Bit like Ralston, McCowan and Forrest, so they're not going to kick up a fuss and will be to happy to get the odd minutes here and there
