9 goals in 53 games? Almost 1 goal in every 6! Sammy has a far higher return (1 in 3.5 or something) and he's played mostly as a winger.

Edit: Chivas are one of the worst teams in the MLS so this might go some way to explaining it.

Sky Sports understands Celtic are closing in on the signing of United States international Juan Agudelo.

The Chivas USA man linked up with Celtic for a training stint in November as he tried to secure a move to a European club during the Major League Soccer close season.

The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the best young talents in America and has attracted the interest of a number of clubs across Europe.

Celtic are hoping to win the race for Agudelo after he impressed Neil Lennon and his coaching staff during his time on trial.

Lennon is keen to bolster his attacking options in this month's transfer window and they have now made an offer to Chivas as they look to bring the Colombian-born forward to Celtic Park.

I have seen Agudelo play quite a bit.

Very hot and cold player at this point but has all the physical talent you would look for in a stiker (kind of fast, strong, can finish)

He wasn't surrounded with attacking/creative talent at Chivas USA so that explains his lack of goals. He began to show glimpses of potential at RBNY but with Thierry Henry, Kenny Cooper and some English striker whose name I can't recall all on the roster he was kind of surplus.

Will be interesting to see who he becomes playing with all the talent at Celtic.. Can't wait to have an American wearing the hoops :50:

Dunno, it could be him retweeting it to show just how wrong SSN is! :smiley-laughing002:

Hope you're right though, it's about time we had an American player :50:

I suppose Neil Lennon did say he'd be down in England looking at players......or meeting them! :icon_mrgreen:

Potentially the best players from USA and Australia on Celtic's books. Good for marketing.

Agudelo is a good talent, one of the best not named Dempsey, Donovan or Howard.

Very nice goal. Whether he signs or not I'm glad we're looking at the American market. There will be an increasing amount of emerging talent over the next few years imo and the country holds immeasurable marketing potential.

Clever deal, good young player with potential, pretty cheap, presumably won't be on huge wages, also boosts our profile and maintains/increases interest in us in an other country.

I know a lot of people are cynical about "shirt-sellers" but that's the way to go. As long as the player has actual quality as well then it's perfect, kills 2 birds with 1 stone. Infact if they are marketable enough then you can basically pay for their wages just with the merchandising. I'm not saying Agudelo's anywhere near that level yet but it's a good start from us.

Man U have been doing it perfectly for years, they bought Kagawa last summer purely for his huge fanbase for example and i'm sure they'll have made millions off him even though he's done * all for them.

He'll probably have learnt a lot from playing in the same team as Thierry Henry.
