Can you post the technical reasons why or stop spouting this man, why can't he? He isn't a UK national

I really don't get this, how will he be due a tax bill, he isn't a UK national. UK nationals yes, they may if it doesn't interfere with double taxation. He is Portuguese not UK. Explain this rule

Would love to see him back personally. Tierney too. Let’s get the gang back together.

Firstly I said most likely - so any liability will be dependent on the time/dates he was present/absent from uk. Being a Portuguese national is irrelevant for the purposes of this, in the same way as If a Uk National goes and lives works in Portugal they will be subject to the tax regime of Portugal.
Irrespective of the tax liability he may or may not potentially face in the UK, should he return, my main point was in saying that stating this would stop him returning to the uk was/is simply incorrect.

Gonna be honest mate and say the last thing that needs brought into this discussion is the rules on double taxation.. as we will all very quickly lose the will to live :giggle1:

Aye if we could get him back in for a decent price/deal, even allowing for paying towards any potential tax bill (although that may present issues but not going to get bogged down in that lol), I’d be up for that as well.

Jota has never been a UK resident he was here on a working visa usually a 3 year visa. Read the link again, you I and @Tim-Time 1888 are uk residents. Jota is Portuguese resident working abroad.
Sorry but its my autism kicking in, I know it matters not but it's annoying to say he is a UK resident when he isn't.
I'll happily admit defeat and accept I'm wrong but how is Jota a UK resident. I don't get it. The link shows I am right not wrong :56:I might be being a muppet though.

Never mind I'm just in a bad mood. Need to get back to the hun thread for some comedic relief.
    Enjoy your night :60:

Resident is different to citizen. Resident just means the country you officially live and work in. Jota officially lived and worked in the UK when he played for Celtic.

Jota can probably sign for us without it costing him loads in tax but it's a little complicated.

Usually if you work in two places during a tax year (April-April) double tax rules apply to ensure you only pay tax in one place and aren't double-taxed on the same income. However, as Saudi Arabia has no income tax, this rule doesn't apply. So when he submits his tax returns in April, they would consider the money he earned both in Saudi Arabia and the UK as taxable, which means losing a big chunk of that Saudi money.

However, something that needs to be considered is that he has already moved to France, who we do have a double-tax rule in place with. I would think he's already liable to pay tax on his Saudi income there and they have a similar upper threshhold to Scotland (45% vs 48% - robbing *).

Long story short, he is probably already liable to pay tax on his Saudi income because he moved to work in France, but he won't be liable to pay twice on the same income by moving to work in the UK because of the double-tax agreements we have in place with France.

With each passing game, getting him back makes more and more sense.

From a footballing perspective it's a no brainer. Exactly what we need.

Can't disagree, but only if we have a fit and motivated Jota.
I worry that his time in the wilderness means we end up with a shadow of the former player, especially if current coach is directly criticising his lack of fitness.

I think him being back at Celtic will be motivation enough. Just don’t think he’s found that home yet that he had here, probably missed it since the day he left.

Jota with Tierney behind and Kuhn with Johnston behind is genuine CL level stuff.
