I think there will be very few players who stick with us for multiple seasons, some of our academy guys like Cal Mac and Forrest, and one or two players who love the atmosphere and won’t find it elsewhere, but the majority are either looking for a step into the big 5, or money,

The Saudi’s are splashing cash and you’ll find somebody like Mendes has been brought in to bring the players to the league for us if Jota had a different agent I don’t think he’d have been in their radar. I think this is a Mendes driven deal.

There will be lots of players now looking at this and thinking wow 10m a year, I’m better than him, I think I want some of that. Football is becoming global, at Celtic we need to accept that most players see us as a route to either bigger leagues or. More money

if Jota was a hun player he would be worth at least £50m. (Scottish media would be demanding that figure at least)

Still, many are has-beens, and don't fix the problem of the other, non-star players being *. Europeans and South Americans won't tune in to watch Neves and Jota accompanied by subpar players. We as a club are most likely going to take the money offered, but a sale to Al Ittihad will hardly put us higher on the list of up and coming clubs that produce or develop talent that makes it big.

Saudi Arabia is the footballing equivalent of the Financial Independence, Retire Early (FIRE) movement. Problem? It gets one nowhere in terms of footballing legacy.

True but think about the players who want to sign for us. They'll be thinking "2 good years and I can be off for a 200k a week gig playing on the sand"

Does it matter thou. I'd rather set up my kids, grand kids and have a very comfortable life with 10s/100s of millions and creating a legacy in a new country than making just a mill or two creating a legacy in other parts of the world. It's definitely a no brainer really. With the money there now, anything is possible to change football. Who knows, it could quite possibly turn into the new prem league with everyone aspiring to go there. On another note, I hope it's the catalyst for the prem league bubble to burst!

    So about £27m.

£21.5m profit, with £7m going to Benfica.

£20m buys us two top players. Get it spent Celtic.

FWIW, I personally think the US has got its act together and it's only a matter of time before its league becomes one of the top 5 or 6. I'd also like to see China try again (with a more sensible strategy) as I think a Chinese league could be very special in a couple of decades. SA might achieve their goals in the short term but IMHO it will be short-lived. It might be the best league for a few years, but it will implode as soon as oil prices come down.

I have no problem with Jota for following the money, plenty of others will too. As long as we get a good fee for him and reinvest the money well. I still think it's probably a bad move for him though FWIW.

Oil Prices are going to still be high for a number of years yet. The other point is, whilst I think they're spending far too much money on certain players(Ronaldo-£170m a year, Benzema-£180m a year, Kante-£100m a year), they seem to now be focusing on players from a different sort of pool where they know they can pay mega bucks. Brozovic is apparently getting £25m a year, Jota £10m a year, Neves apparently getting £30m a year.

We know they can't do that with every player but I don't think people understand just how wealthy we are talking. Literally trillions of dollars. They could spend £1b a year, hoovering up talent, get a TV deal somewhere to showcase the games to offset some of that and they could run that league for the next 20 years easily, without even making a scratch on their wealth.
