Maybe so but the move has went about because the agent has spoken to them if their was no agents then club can say no and that’s the end of the matter unless they get the fee they want

I lived there for a year with my company before and I lived very comfortably for that year. Yes, it's not Dubai but that's what they're trying to change. Me and the wife weren't married at the time but we were still able to go out and about. Trust me, it's not as bad as some people make out. Yes, the human rights is atrocious but you're not really aware of it.

I moved there for just over a year because of the money. In the end, I came home, got married and started a family but I did enjoy it over there.

Saudi Arabia form of Islam, wahhabism is extreme, it's illegal to openly practice any other forms of religion except Islam, atheistism is illegal and punishable by death. Can understand why settled Muslim players in their 30s would want one final paycheck.

No footballer is going over there to preach their religion or speak against Islam, they'll be so far removed from every day life in saudi arabia that this kind of thing will be pretty much meaningless. If it was going to be any kind of real issue the saudi's wouldn't be signing players from non-muslim countries.

Would be a huge loss, but no-one is irreplaceable to the club.

Can't blame the guy, insane amount of money (if what's been reported is accurate) he'd be foolish not to take it. A few years of life changing money for him and family, future kids etc. Can easily return to a European team further down the line, still incredibly young and talented. No-brainer decision for him.

Not as simple as you think. The players' wives may unknowingly do something that lands them in big trouble. Such as going outside without a male beside them.

Highly unlikely, they'll be living in gated communities/resorts and be well educated on local customs and taboos when they're going over there, probably all surrounded by private security as well to keep them right, they're not just going to go running off down some 'normal' city streets with their * out.

Sharia Law, especially under the current crown Mohammed Bin Salman who's a tyrant but has instituted liberal reforms in order to diversify the economy, largely doesn't apply for those who are working in Saudi/tourists...

You can travel there alone as a woman etc if you're not a Saudi national.

Basically like getting paid to live in a prison so. A good season here, Jota could definitely get a move to a lower EPL side and get 40 to 50 grand a week contract.

What if the wife wants to watch her husband at a game? Not in a gated community any more. UAE hide their vile behavior behind less open repression. Saudi Arabia is a proper hellhole. Ronaldo and Georgina got severe stick on social networks because of her photos.

More like getting paid £20m quid to live in a 5 star private holiday resort and play football for 2 years.

    But aye, prison.

Then they'll travel with the team and have security, not making their way to the game themselves on public transport. Footballers and their partners get stick on social media wherever they are, you're really scraping the barrel here trying to convince yourself these are reasons footballers won't go there. Saudi Arabia may well be a hellhole for some people, but footballers will never experience that, they're the 1%.

Hardly a 5 star resort with the climate of the area being hazardous.

In a past life, I worked with many Arabs from Saudi and Dubai. They said it's so hot you have to drive everywhere with the air con on. You can't even walk down the street due to the boiling heat. Also, Saudi's have more rights then you. If a Saudi drives into you and causes a crash but tells the police you did it, you're boned. They've also been cases of the police pulling random foreigners off the streets and torturing them for no reason. Unless I was getting craaazy money, I'd not consider it either.

You forget that the last World Cup was moved to winter because of the climate. Not everything can be covered by AC.

I've had the displeasure of suffering through temperatures around 40°C multiple times. It drains the energy out of anyone. Players will have to survive high 30-s at least.
