And likely the sell on clause has already been agreed as part of that fee, but we could now be offering them more money than that original agreed fee to reduce that sell on clause they want, something like (numbers picked at random) £9m and 15% rather than £6.5m and 30%. But if they don't budge we still have the option of just paying the original agreed fee and terms.

 

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed Celtic are in talks with Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers over permanent deals.

But the Hoops manager warned there was still work to be done to get the double transfer swoop over the line.




The champions-elect are also keen to sign Carter-Vickers from Tottenham, having already agreed a £6m option to buy.

Postecoglou insists both players are happy at Celtic but confirmed nothing has been thrashed out yet.

He said: "We are in discussions with them obviously, and as I have said all along, with these kind of things it's never a simple process.



But both have had unbelievable years for us and been outstanding contributors and both are really happy here.


Our intent is to try and keep them at our football club but these things need a point where all parties agree.




I am hopeful we will get to that point but at this point we are not quite there yet."

ANGE POSTECOGLOU says talk of a permanent deal for Jota to remain at Celtic is premature, following reports from Portugal this week that the winger had told Benfica he wished to remain in Glasgow.

Jota has enjoyed a successful loan spell at Celtic this season, and it is understood that a deal is already in place between the clubs for a permanent move, with Celtic having to pay a fee of around £6m to secure his services.

The Celtic manager said that talks were indeed ongoing between Jota’s agent and the club, but when asked if there had been any significant developments this week on the transfer, Postecoglou said: “Nah, not really.

"We are at that point in the season where people are going to speculate but on our behalf nothing has really changed.

“We are in talks with Jota’s representatives and from our perspective we would obviously like him to stay at the football club. He’s had a great year for us. But with all these things you need agreement from all sides, so hopefully we are working towards that.

“I’m not aware of the chat mate but if you’re telling me there seems to be some significant progress then, yes, they are being premature.”
