Celtic approached Vitória Guimarães about Jota Silva in January before turning their attentions to Nicolas Kuhn.
The winger, 24, was on the Hoops' scouting radar back in the winter window as he had shown potential to become one of Brendan Rodgers' signings ahead of the title run-in. Reports this week emerged suggesting the club were keen on the attacker and Football Scotland can reveal they were previously considering a move for the playmaker
Silva has 13 goals and seven assists in all competitions this season so far and his form even back in January was attracting interest. Vitoria, however, were keen on keeping their star and Celts would eventually bring in Kuhn from Rapid Vienna, as we told you, in a deal worth around an initial £3million
Silva has since made his full Portugal debut in their 5-2 win over Sweden and is now valued by his club at around €15million or £12.9million, which would price Celtic out of any potential return for his signature

Would sign him based on nothing other than his name.

I know £12.9m is expensive but we should be able to afford they sort of fees. Likely we will make around £40m from player sales/player percentages(Frimpong/Tierney).
£13m for a man who is performing above expectations in a league like Portugal should not be out of our budget. Ridiculous to even suggest that it is, in my opinion. -
Potentially ominous for Palma if we are targeting another winger.
New/Maeda Kuhn/Yang/Forrest. -

We love a “we nearly signed this guy!” Media leak don’t we?

If we really wanted him he'd have surely been the option.
Just another name being chucked out to suggest "we tried".MickeyyMack likes this. -

Hard to price him, as you say. However, I would be looking for £6m for him. I think we could get that easily. His numbers are actually pretty good here. 101 games, 27 goals and 15 assists. It’s decent numbers. -

Ah the Peter Lawell "we tried" bucket.
Nearly as boringly repetitive as these once a week Scottish Sun articles titled "I used to star fae Rangers, now I sell chicken feet to Chinese pornstars" etc etc
We would've won the CL by now with all these "couldnae gae it over the line" signings like McGinn, Toney, et al.MickeyyMack likes this.
