If we signed him in the summer, would you feel robbed if we sold him just now for €7m and a 30% sell on?

    * it give them an 80% sell on, less incentive to punt him to the first team that flashes there wallet at us

I'm fine with this. £14.5m clear to buy two new Jota's.

Would defo want that 30% to be a lot less, starting with a 1 would be better.

However, if that's non-negotiable, then it better not be s stumbling block. Not worth NOT having him here, for the sake of a few million profit in a few years.

The only way I can see the sell on being negotiable would be to offer them a higher up front fee, which is even more of a gamble. What if he gets a really bad injury and doesn't regain his form, for example? We risk losing more money that way.

Either way is a risk for both clubs, but I think the lower fee with higher sell on is probably the best option for both parties. I'd actually have been more worried about them inserting a buy back clause than the 30% sell on.

30% sell on is pretty steep as far as they go, but on the other hand the price we've agreed for him always looked relatively cheap for someone of his potential, and if/when we did sell him on we'll probably have a sell on ourselves or performance based add-ons at the next club, it's not like we'd have been shafted.

    He's definitely still worth it.

We can add a 30% one if he signs and is sold on for a large fee as well.

Only way we got Eddy as well.

Knowing us we will hold out until 11.55pm deadline day to announce it even if it’s a done deal tomorrow lol.

If we lose him over a sell on fee it would be insane

    JOTA WILL 'MARRY' CELTIC

Only a huge comeback will prevent Jota from wearing the Celtic jersey again next season. Champion at the service of the Scottish club and key player in the title, with ten goals and 11 assists in the 29 matches in which he participated (25 of which as a starter), the 23-year-old forward found a new home at Celtic Park after 12 years de Benfica and not only stole the stands but also let himself be snatched by the atmosphere, a context that led him to decide to "yes" to marrying the Scottish club after a season that resulted in a very happy relationship.

The Scottish club has already communicated to Benfica the decision to trigger the option to purchase the pass, paying the €7.5M agreed upon on the loan and guaranteeing 70 percent of the player's sporting rights.

Frimpong had a pretty big sell on fee. We didn't spend alot signing him though

Apparently we offered £2m at first and they came back with a big sell on fee and hardly anything upfront. Lawwell must have been buzzing. Canny mind where I read that right enough so might be *

I thought a sell on fee was 30% north of the initial fee paid. For example Celtic paid 6.5 mill......the sell on fee doesn't kick in until that sum is recuperated?

Whatever clauses are involved it's a bargain for a player of his quality. We don't get someone of his level for less so get it done.

But he had only ever played in pl2, Jota had played about 30 games for Benfica, 50 in Portuguese second tier, played in La Liga and won trophies at various levels fir Portugal and a fee only came into place after another season with us.

We're no the huns. We're no skint. If it's 30% * it, we get Jota.

Trying to make money on players has held us back for years, always with the next legend or project or one for the future and 90% come to nothing.
Jota should be bought for ability alone and not what we might sell him for in the future.
