Some celtic fans yet again turning on a player after a bad performance, last few weeks been praised, did very well int he Ibrox game and hes ONLY 19, hardly got a game for STOCKPORT and game into the first team. Hel learn, hel bulk up, personally i think hes looked good on the ball, a talent no doubt, pace isnt everything although it does help, am i right in saying thats his first or second yellow card? Not bad, that tackle against dargo is worst ive seen from him, he didnt have a good game, but neither did anyone else, i dont think hel be in the team much longer, needs to a bit of a rest alot of pressure was put on him

He was an established international defender. Not a rookie teenager who's only played a handful of games in his career.

Ok looks like the opener is just looking to lay the blame here on a 19 year old lad who as some have already mentioned has played only 20 games. Plus no wonder we lost the last two goals when we were playing 2-3-5 even barca will lose playing that system for christ sake, lay off him if you want to lay blame you blame the entire team, zaluska just proved in tht game he is nowhere near boruc and those who think we need to sell boruc are mad coz when he is gone boy will you want him back.

What about O'dea is he entirely blameless? i think not Cb's come in pairs and tbh wilson and brafheid were awol for most of the game. When you have 4 vs 2 defenders the attackers are going to score goals, no matter what kind of pace Thompson would have even if he was usain bolt would have been able to defend a 4 v 2.
    Rant over.

Balde was a slow player, but a walking Tiger II tank. And he was good. Josh Thompson looks similar to me. I think, if we play a formation that offers a bit of safety to the defense, instead of Mowbray's experiments, Joshra will fight battles with forwards with ease.

    Too many to name.
The guy was left to defend practically on his own when TM had 6 strikers on and O'Dea went awol...he's just out the wrapper for gods sake and put in an impossible situation by the manager because of injuries. You have to give the boy some credit for standing up to be counted.

im sure i remember mcgeady saying that the sports scientist we had when wgs was here was helping him improve his pace.

also what about sprinters they can lose one time and win the next. i dont know if thats the best way to describe it but its all i can think of

In response to that it wasnt ur original post about his lack of pace i was directing my response at, if you look to the first reply to the post someone said that he didnt "rate" him at all you then agreed with that, since when does a lack of pace suddenly jump to not rating someone at all ?

You can increase your pace with fitness training, but you have to have pace. McGeady always had pace the fitness coach and sports scientists helped him increase his initial burst of pace.

Thompson has no mobility at all. I do think he is a decent player and I he could go on to play at a good standard but I really do not think he will make it in the long term in the Celtic team. We demand to win every domestic competition and compete in some way in Europe and I dont think Josh Thompson will ever be able to do that

What's pace got to do with being a centre-back? It's always good to have some but look at old man Weir and plenty others. The reason Weir gets away with it is because he's had top class coaching, he has a wealth of experience, and finally the team is actually set up to compromise for his lack of pace.

I was never happy with Josh getting put in the team because one idiot manager and a couple of bad results can completely destroy the lads confidence and the confidence the fans have in him. I wish people would lay off because once he is stuck in a settled back 5 he will really show what he can do.
