Miku only has himself to blame. He had a great reception when he arrived and he squandered it.

Dunno how you work that out, he's barely been given a chance to squander anything. From the glimpses we've seen he's looked just as worthy of game time as lassad imo.

Unless lennon doesn't like his attitude or what he sees in training then it does seem like we've wasted his time.

True. But it's fair to say Miku hasn't looked like he can bothered.

    Isn't it?

Miku? He's been pish ( apart from barca ) any players who are lazy, loses the ball and doesn't try and win it back doesn't deserve to be playing and Miku fits that category. Punt him I say.

To be honest I genuinely don't know what to think about him. During the little game time he's had i always thought he looked like he might have that little bit of quality some of the others don't. I haven't seen every game this season though so you and others may be in a better position to comment than me.

I keep comparing him to lassad because they came together and lassad has never looked.particularly interested or motivated which is why i can't understand how he's so preferred to miku.

Anyway, dragging this off topic a little!

Had a good game against Dundee United and scored then was dropped next game. Had an outstanding game against Barcelona and was dropped next game again.

A run of games after either of those games could of helped the boy

Would take Russell in the summer if Hooper goes, but certainly not as a replacement.

I don't think buying a player purely because he is considered a hunskelper is a valid reason.

I have said all along, yes he is a good player but would he improve our squad, especially for European matches. I don't think so. We have Stokes, who I would see as a better player than him.

I also think, he is not as good this season as he was last season. Signing him in my opinion, for the money they would want would show a fair lack of ambition.

Watching his goals from today, I just wonder how much he would miss Daly's little knock-downs and flick-ons if he came here. Obviously, he'd get good service from out wide, and through the middle (especially with a playmaker like Rogic seems to be), and Sammy and Lassad have been known to knock it down, but I just think that, being an aggressive finisher, Russell benefits so much from his partnership with a classic target-man like Daly (and vice-versa too, of course).

I'm still dying to sign him - especially if Hooper's away in the summer. If Hooper does leave, and we bring Russell in, we'd be pretty much building a lot of our attack around Russell to some extent (as we mainly do with Hooper currently), so we'd need to consider what kind of attacking structure would suit him best, and (from what I see of him at United) that includes someone who can either knock a ball down, and/or a player who can deliver it with a fair bit of a bounce (we have that in Mulgrew). Now, personally, 'til now, I've been of the mind that if we were adding another attacking player, it should be a passing, playmaking 'number 10', and not a big target-man 'number 9', but if we buy Russell, we need to be aware that we'd be getting a guy who probably likes the ball on the bounce even more than Hooper does. Equally, we'd be getting a guy who can (and currently does) assist a lot more than Hooper.

I guess I'm just saying that, while a target-man isn't a necessity (with or without Russell), if we were to buy Russell and expect him to settle in well without too much adaptation, a 'big number 9' could be useful. Then again, Russell might come here and add so much to the build-up of play that we find we already have a 'providing forward' in himself.

I'd hate to see him turn out like some of the other SPL forwards we've bought before. He reminds me a bit of Scott McDonald (and he had JVOH).

Having said all that above, what's just as important to Russell's game is good build-up play, and as much as we have that here, we could do with an extra spark of creativity. Hopefully Rogic will provide this, but regardless, I'd like to see us buy GMS - whether or not we sign Johnny Russell, but especially if we do sign JR.

GMS could eventually replace Commons, who isn't getting any younger. I just think, with GMS and Russell here, they could go from strength to strength. Are they CL quality just now? Probably not (though look at Scott McDonald). However, were Hooper, Commons or Forrest CL quality last season? I wouldn't say so. Did those three guys have that CL potential last season? Obviously. Do Russell and GMS possess that same potential? I'd say they definitely do, and it'd be up to our coaching staff (and the players themselves) to make good on that potential, which is a risk I'd be more than willing to take.

Yeah I think its somewhat unfair to say these guys won't ever be champions league quality, who knows how Russell might get on if we sign him and end up playing him in big European games. He's only what 22, and his attitude is second to none, gives 110% and he big tim, he's rattled in what, 18 or 19 goals this season and that's with Dundee United. He would get double the service at Celtic so he might get you 30+ per season, and he can play as a centre forward, on the wing and just behind the striker. I think he could be an excellent player for Celtic. I hope we sign him in the summer, would be absolutely gutted if he went to some mob in England.

Really want him here but he would or should not be bought as a replacement for Hooper. He will get you goals but him and Hooper are two very different forwards IMO. If/when Hooper goes we should look to replace him with another poacher type striker with a good, consistent goalscoring record. Austin would be ideal however I do not fancy paying 6-8m for him, because that is what Burnley would look for.

Think we will wrap him up when Hooper leaves.

Not the answer for a Champions League level goalscorer.

Good player just not Hoopers replacement.

I think he is he scores very good goals in a pretty poor team look at hoopers service from our wing men and mid field ... think what russell could do with that service !!!!

I don't understand how anyone can come to that conclusion until we see him at that level. I'm pretty sure when Hooper signed form Scunthorpe, everyone would have said the exact same thing.

Unusually narrow minded for an experienced poster, such as yourself.

We signed Hooper from Scunthorpe and look at the player he's turned out to be for us. There really isn't much, if anything, between Dundee United and Scunthorpe.

    United are probably better :smiley-laughing002:
