Pleased we are keeping him. He's fast, direct and is no soft touch.

Great chance for him and let's us see what he can do and if he's ready to be a part of the 1st team squad.

Ironically, one of the few youth prospects we've actually handled the right way. Couple of loans to help his development and now at 21 getting an opportunity in the 1st team due to the fact his last loan was a massive success.

Obviously he's only getting that chance due to us being a * absolute shambles in the transfer market but none the less it's a cracking opportunity for him. Hopefully he grabs it with both hands

Sometimes an unexpected opportunity presents itself and it's the making of a player. We've all heard about Kieran Tierney's unexpected rise to the first team. Here's hoping Johnny Kenny can excell as the understudy striker and forge a path for himself at the club. We do all say youngsters need a chance.

    Yeah.

As frustrating as it is to have not spent on a good quality replacement, he has a chance here to show he's worthy of consideration.

I do agree with you. I think the lack of clear strategy is why people are * off though. If Rodgers came out and said "look we've got a promising young striker here and Idah is now our main man so I'm happy" then most of the support wouldn't have bothered torturing themselves all of yesterday waiting on a signing that was never coming.

He will have my full support and I hope he smashes in some goals for us, but can help feel it's a big gamble going from Kyogo/Idah to Idah/Kenny.

But Rodgers has challenged Johnny Kenny to be the man to fill the void left by Kyogo's exit.

He continued: "I think it's something that I said clearly we wanted to do (sign a striker). We wanted to have that support at the top end of the field.

"We didn't manage to do that. So Johnny Kenny will be here

And Johnny is a brilliant finisher, he looks physically in a good place in the three weeks or so he's been training with us

John (Kennedy) and the other coaches who've been here before, they see the real difference in him.

"I'm now putting my time into him and working with him and see how he develops now. Because he's a natural finisher in the box. There's absolutely no doubt about that."

Like what we saw in that cameo against Ross County. Hopefully see a bit more of him due to our transfer incompetence opening the door.

No bad company to be in with a team like Shamrock Rovers eh?

Look forward to seeing how he goes now, after Rodgers talking him up.

Scored against some very good teams in Europe this season. He has something about him. Massive opportunity for him.

Thought that at the time, if we'd signed a young lad from abroad at the start of Jan who had just ended the Conference League campaign joint 2nd top scorer I think we'd aw be pretty happy with that. Obviously we would've wanted another striker in alongside him but gives him a proper chance now.

Shame Cummings appears to have rushed into a decision so soon after making his debut because he would've also had that chance.

Celtic fans are at this very moment in time in a complete contradiction vacuum.

The same folk that wanted a striker are going berserk there’s no path way to the first team for young players. Here’s the opportunity for Kenny and, like you say, Cummings would have had the very same chance had he not been impatient. Whether you think he’s in the right or wrong that’s the reality.

As a Derry City supporter as they are my local team and play in the League of Ireland I have seen Kenny on a good few occasions. I was always impressed with his movement and he did look pretty good but as a striker for Celtic- I just don't see it. Even as 3rd choice it would be a real scare for me if he ended up having to play.

With Maeda suspended he'll have a part to play in the 1st leg against Bayern at the very least.

Idah should do the 90 if possible although I know he will likely put in a real shift. I can't see Kenny offering anything at all against a team like Bayern......

Yes he looked good in that cameo, and hopefully he can this take this opportunity with both hands, and kick on from here. Big unit at 6'2' and looks like he could some damage.

Maybe our policy is changing, and a genuine pathway is opening up for our young players to be able to make the transition to the first team squad, if they show they are both patient and capable of doing so.
