I agree. He should never have been anywhere near the Celtic boardroom.

As you have an IRA avatar.... the sheer gall of it all. When u support a war civilian casualities are unlucky, but when u don't support those involved in it are war criminals.

War crimes charges were actually brought against the US and Britain and turned away by the International Criminal Court for lack of evidence that war crimes were committed. This is the same ICC that is no friend to the US as the US is the biggest country to not recognize it. So war criminal is a bit far.... but hey whatever floats ur boat. IF you wanna chant "war criminal" and get riled be my guest. People have rallied behind such simplistic slogans absent true research (especially in the age of the university of Google) for centuries and won't stop now. Also I love when people do politics via hindsight, its the perfect way to make an argument because ur opponent is patently wrong (given hindsight) and you are vindicated simply for not being your opponent.

Reid did well by us this year. His actions as a politician must be considered separately.

    Testicles.

And it's not an "IRA avatar"?

    * hindsight too.Millions marched against that war and were ignored, the vast majority knew it was wrong, still do.I mean overwhelmingly the people were opposed to invading Iraq.It was quite obvious to anyone around at the time that it was not popular at all.
That war was wrong,Reid is a *,and when he has the audacity to tell us to leave politics at the door?Aye,it's because he desperately wanted us all to forget about what he was complicit in.
He did do a good job,but I'd have never had him doing it and I never want to hear from him again.

Infact, one could argue the IRA campaign was justified-IT WAS...was Iraq?

No one's getting riled,it sounds like you're riled ffs.

And * the ICC.The war was based on a pack of lies as we all now know, and whether they knew it or not, peoples decisions including Reids are responsible for a whole * load of disfigured, handicapped, dead, and destroyed families and people.
He is a scumbag who went to war for bogus reasons and is worthy of no * respect whatsoever.

Do you even know anything about the Iraq war or the lead up to the vote in the UK parliament?

The point over whether the war was 'right' or 'wrong' is completely irrelevant. What is a fact is that John Reid along with the rest of the cabinet conspired and subsequently lied to parliament about the extent of Iraq's armaments (up to and including nuclear weaponry) when they knew there was no real evidence. The public and all other politicians were sold a lie by 'Dr John Reid' and his cronies to get them to vote for and support a war that the UN did not sanction.

It's not a matter of hindsight, the only reason the war was voted for at the time was because John Reid was lying and brought false evidence before parliament. If John Reid didn't lie, at the time and without hindsight, the war wouldn't have gone ahead and millions of innocents would not be meaninglessly brought into a war. Full stop.

Our finances have NOT won the SPL title in three years, and we are dire in Europe!

I disagree mate. 3 trophies in 4 years is pretty little for a club like Celtic. Especially since it's only one SPL title as well.

We need to aim for more and need to do better. 6-10 is realistic and something I would consider successful.

That's true about Quinn but over the last few years we had spent a fortune. Big signings coming in for £5 or 6 million with players on £40,000 per week. Celtic couldn't sustain that and Quinn knew that and wasn't prepared to take the club down the Rangers route. He could have been tempted to spend big but that would have got us nowhere in the long term... He knew what he was doing and was scared of a repeat of the Barnes fiasco. Stupid thing to do in terms of waving the wallet about, maybe he enjoyed the publicity but at least he didn't commit to illegal wars...

Reid was irresponsible with the chequebook on occasion and let Mowbray run riot and sign a lot of crap players. The only thing is that the club gave Lennon cash and he bought well. How much will the new chairman let Lennon spend?

We've won one SPL trophy in four years and have completely failed in Europe, if that's not unsuccessful for Celtic then I dunno what is.

His legacy in my eyes has not been a good one - the main part of that legacy would be the way in which he divided the support something awful.

People are talking about his role in the SFA saga. He done well there but lest we forget the main catalyst in that was Neil Lennon.

When John Reid arrived didn't he say the league was "our bread and butter". He was chairman for 4 seasons and we only won it once?

    Great news he's gone!!!!!

Goodbye Mr Reid, you were a despicable man and our club is a better place without you

    Well said Padraig!!!!

A liar and A War Criminal with the blood of 1000's of innocents dripping from his hands - NO-ONE can claim he was ever fit to be club chairman. Total piece of scum - take his mate Brian Wilson with him. Our club does not need low life like this.

The Court of Justice in the Hague is where they belong.

Tired old pish? Wow. A lot of people have died in wars this man had more than a hand in and it's "tired old pish". Try telling the thousands of families who have lost children, dads and mums that he was a "cracking big guy".

Just because he was a jovial man to you doesn't mean he wasn't swimming in the blood of innocent people. I'm sure Stalin told a cracking anecdote but he was still a *.

Big political differences with John Reid, and I still applaud the Green Brigade, alongside many others, for the opposition to his initial appointment, however, I do commend him for the role he played as our Club Chairman, and I do applaud him for the way he stood up in defence of our Club, and for the support he gave Neil Lennon, in his time of need.
