Forgot about him, we have enough, I'd only be really pushing for this if it was someone who was going guaranteed to make a difference in Europe and McGinn isn't.

This, was talking to a few Hibees and they said he was unreal last night.. And there was a few scouts at the game apparently. Pay Hibs the money he is worth or * off , proper biscuit tin * from Celtic. You'd swear we were skint..

Hibs could well be playing games with us,John has a great game and fans then rave, likewise the press whores.
We have given them a decent offer which they rejected, next time Petrie comes looking for a loan player of ours, politely tell him to get lost or words to that effect.

I detest the biscuit tin mentality at the club generally.

However, in this case, the club is right. McGinn is nothing special and there's no need to pay over the odds for him when he could be signed on a pre-contract in January.

Most fans want players we actually need ie a good CB and RB to come straight into the team. Not more squad fillers.

Squad fillers in your opinion , and whos to say a rb and cb wont come in too? We have already made 3 bids to then lose out on him would be embarrassing.

Don't think you are getting the point that others are making.

Think almost everyone would like to see McGinn at Celtic, but we don't want to be held to ransom for a guy who hasn't proven it beyond mid table SPL for one season. Specially with only 1 year remaining on his contract. We'd all like to see him come, as we reckon he has potential, but there is a lot of work to be done with McGinn to get to the standard we want, and paying 4million for that is not worth it - when 4 million or even 2million on a CB is a bigger priority.

As for Arzani, again think most would be interested to see him come here, has potential as well and could excite the fans in a similar fashion to Paddy Roberts, but it's a loan deal for a man city player who will eventually ask us to pay £10million for him, when he only costs a few hundred k right now. It's the principle of that one, combined with the understanding we likely wouldn't have him to sell on, so surely playing Johnston would make more sense.

In both cases, this isn't about not wanting them at the club, but that the prices mentioned are obscene

Spending 4 million on him, to then turn out to be not good enough would be embarrassing.

Spent 3m on kouassi i dont see the problem in paying for mcginn if the manager wants him ..better than quite a few players we have.

So you think Mcginn is going to come in and be an auto starter? Or arzsni for that matter? If the defensive positions are sorted then anything else is gravy and I'm sure most would welcome a bit of squad strengthening. To be frank though, this should have, probably, already been addressed.
Embarrassing? To who? For who? From who? I don't get that at all mate.

Well considering weve fannied about with 3bids and he's still not here yet then lets say an english club comes in and snatches him now , how does that look ?

What it looks like is we've made a decent offer for a player in his mid 20s( not, contrary to popular opinion, young talent) with less than a year left on his contract, who will in effect be a rotational option/back up. If some Barnsley or derby or such like wants to scatter cash on him to perform what will be, probably, the same role then fair * to them, we move on. Im sure other targets will be available when this position actually needs filled. Still don't see how in any way that looks embarrassing for us.

What will be worse, imo, is being held to ransom by a shitpot club like * hibs. This will essentially give any other Scottish club licence to do the same in the future.

If it was a midfielder for 3-4m from a foreign club the tone would be quite different regardless if we 'need' him or not.. and thats a fact its sheer arrogance thinking your better than the best scottish talent coming through.

Exactly, already been burned once recently. Plus Eboue actually had a successful spell in the Europa and proved more in Russia, a stronger league than our own.

It's about time the rags use the transfer of the defender with the foot issue last year to panic mcginn to jump at an english club incase he gets injured waiting on the move ,surprised its no been used yet.

Then it is what it is.
But that's also another factor in this situation. It's common knowledge we want him to hopefully be Browns long term replacement, so if we want him, he wants to come etc, he will surely wait it out till January? But if we are worried an English club can turn his head now, then that same worry will be there in 18months when he has a good spell and Southampton come knocking.

We aren't looking at him to be moved on, we want him long term, so we have to get the mentality that he will be turned to England out our head. Or what's the point in £4million to sell him in 18months for little more than that?

First of all, nowhere did I say I was better than john mcginn:50: and if this foreigner was worth 3-4m and going to improve the team then yes the tone would be different. John mcginn comes into neither category.
And again, coming through? He's almost 24. That's not a youngster, that's a seasoned pro.

Seasoned pro nothing , we signed Brown at the same age , Brown is now a seasoned pro.
