Based on him scoring a flukey free kick? I love Gudettis passion but Griffiths has done way more than him to grab that starting spot.

    Agreed.

I think Griffiths' * performance in the second half have blinded the fact that - for blatant cheating - his header would have been a goal, and he forced a cracking save from Esson after producing a stonker of a shot out of nothing.

Down to 10 men and a wee guy up against a backline of cluggers was always going to be a thankless task.

Agreed about Guidetti's flukey goal (even thpugh a goal nonetheless), bread and butter save for the keeper but he made a howler of it, did not much else apart from blast over the bar later in the game......"super" John eh?

Aye, he was aiming for the ball to bounce just in front of the keeper, and his shot was so amazingly-perfect that it bamboozled the goalkeeper into not even seeing where the ball was it was THAT fabulicious.

I would say so, it's quite a common tactic from free kicks. Precisely because it can catch the keeper out.

He also held the ball up far better than Griffiths, which is what he is better at. Leigh's better when he's facing goal. Said it before the game and I'm still saying it, the two of them should have started yesterday.

No chance it was a fluke, if it were Ronaldo has scored 20 fluke free kicks in his career.

It's a common and well worked tactic to have the ball bounce right in front of the keeper.

Yep, swerve and dip as well as the dreaded bounce in front of goal is a keepers nightmare, and quality players know and practice it..

Eriksen scored a goal for Tottenham the exact same way yesterday, but you don't see their fans slating him saying it was flukey, some people love to moan about nothing, if you don't shoot, you don't score and if it wasn't for him we would have lost 2-1

    Simple yes or no answer:

Would you have expected a keeper to save that shot?

I've wrote the big man off but fair play to him for producing a couple of worldys in massive moments, that shows a lot of bottle.

I heard the description of the goal on the radio, and they made it sound as though the keeper had lifted the ball up and throw it into his own net the way they were going on.

Having seen it on the highlights last night, I don't think it's anywhere near as bad.

The way Guidetti hit the ball was similar to the way a lot of players take free kick's now, hitting the ball with top spin, making it move all over the place. It took an unnatural bounce because of that.

I'd give Guidetti more credit than I would blame the keeper.
