Good luck to him. Think I'm in the minority as I think he could be a great coach. Cracking player in his day.

Have absolutely no ill feeling towards Collins. My favourite player growing up and doesn't get the credit for sticking around at Celtic for as long as he did. Basically sacrificed a good few years of his career to stick with the hoops. Was playing with a * poor Celtic team and was head and shoulders above Scottish football. Others would have walked to a different team for more money (which Collins eventually did) but he gave us a longer service than many others would have done

John Collins was a fantastic player for us. One of the best I've ever seen on the left side of midfield.

I don't get why a fantastic, Celtic supporting, ex-player gets such a hard time from the support.

Virgil Van Dyck came out last week saying how much JC's personal training with him improved his game, and Leigh Griffiths said much the same a couple of months back. Apparently he was taking extra time with players to give advice in extra coaching sessions one on one.

Things may not have worked out for Ronny and his team, but why Collins is singled out for some venomous abuse is beyond me.

“But I am disappointed that Ronny Deila and John Collins are leaving.

“I trained every single day with John Collins and we would often do extra work together. He has a drive that impressed me, to get the maximum out of every player, every single day.

“He knows his football and helped improve aspects of my game during the one year I worked with him, no doubts about that.

“I’m gutted he is leaving Celtic because he is an excellent coach and a fine human being. I’m certain he will go on to new adventures in football, and I wish him well."

    Virgil Van Dyck

Never got this either mate. Also whenever he was working as a pundit, before joining us as a coach, he never had a bad word to say about us, unlike some other certain ex-Celts. He would always say how big a club we were etc. Alright , he might be a bit arrogant and would eat himself if he was chocolate, but I didn't actually mind him at all. Even reading Virgils comments shows he was just always striving for the best.

Good luck to him in the future

ITo some- myself included- it APPEARED that rather than trying to help Ronny he was giving him enough rope to hang himself. Note the emphasis on appeared.

Also his comment about no competition in Scotland didn't do him any favours.

He wasn't wrong though. This is supposedly one of the worst Celtic teams in decades, yet we still ran away with the league - winning it in double figures.

I've never disliked Collins as much as a lot of our support seems to.

He does come off as being a little smug, but he talked the talk as a player and lived his life as a consummate professional and it's clear that's what he demands from his players. I don't think that's a lot to ask in this day and age.

Good luck to him, whatever he does.

Gave up looking for a * Scott brown thread (got to may flicking back pages on my phone). But this relates to Collins as much as brown, so it will do.

Watched the last episode of "Scotland's game" the other night and it got me thinking a lot about(funnily) Scotland's game.

Personally I think a lot of what guys like collins, Elvis, levein etc were saying is bang on the money. And its what we wanted from deila. We need to get with the times in modern football and stop hoping that something magic will happen in this country. We need to be more modern and focus on energy, fitness, playing better and harder and faster and longer than other teams.

We all know generally out nation of kids are way behind that of other nations and even of our own kids 30 years ago.

But while there are old heads and non football minds in positions of real power in our game, who only look out for their own, we aren't going to get anywhere. Maybe in 20 years when they all die off and if the likes of Collins etc haven't given up on it all, we might get lucky that it all starts to click.
Look at what the dutch boy done/said in his position as youth development/grass roots (can't mind the name sorry).

Anyway, my point being is that we do need a fresh and modern approach. And we have tried at various clubs at various times but always we have some road blocks (Barry Ferguson at oldco under le guen).

My point here is, in 2006 Collins done really well at hibs, won a cup, had hibs on a training camp and really wanted to up the professionalism and fitness of the club. It clearly worked. But suddenly a player revolt happened and he resigned shortly after. Le guen tried it at rangers, deila tried it at Celtic. And it seemed to work and we saw the difference, but then something happened in season 2 and all the talk from deila about fitness and lasting more than 90 mins etc went out the window.

Last season I think a large % of us would have been glad to see the back of most of this squad, brown included.

We were all quick to blame deila and Collins collectively. And now that they are both gone we seem to be playing better under Rodgers and players we wanted rid of last year are taking to the new regime. Brown included.

I keep saying brown, because it dawned on me when watching the BBC docu, brown was a key man at hibs in 2006 (he lifted the cup) and there was a player revolt against such changes that Collins wants to bring in.

It happened here last year as well. I know a lot will disagree, but clearly the players where not playing and were going against the manager. The manager didn't have it in him to sort it out either mind you, but brown is a key man in both clubs in that respect.
As was Collins of course, but when we all want to see Scotland progress on the football stage, should we not be demanding and expecting more of the players to give these things a better chance. We laughed at rangers and Ferguson when they * their chance under le guen, did brown do it at hibs under Collins and again here?

Food for thought, he has came on to a game again this season. If Rodgers pushes harder for more fitness etc, could it happen again from brown?

All speculation of course, but interesting to think about in various angles.

Brown wasn't the problem. More likely Commons, Stokes, Mulgrew.

Brown was simply playing through injury to try help the team. And an unfit Brown is quite a poor player. Not his mentality to down tools.

He was a class player, and tried to make our players more professional. Glad we shipped out the gang of 3, commons out the door next

    Graham Hunter podcast with JC

John Collins' career was shaped by his move from Celtic to Monaco in 1996, where he played alongside a couple of promising youngsters named Thierry Henry and David Trezeguet.

Here, Collins tells us how the two French internationalists carried the hamper into the dressing ground at every away game in the season prior to winning the World Cup.
