Hasn't Ledley openly spoke about his desire to stay numerous times? I thought contract talks for our players who only had a year or so left were planned for later this summer. Anyway, Ledley will sign a new deal:icon_mrgreen:

The problem with Ledley's contract I imagine, is that he is in the top wage bracket. I imagine this will put him on £25k-£30k a week. If we're trying to get him to sign a new deal, he'll understandably be wanting a wage rise.

It could be taking him out of our wage structure, that is perhaps where the problem lies.

    No way he'll go.

I don't think he's as loyal to Cardiff as being made out. He had the choice to leave to a club that would have to pay Cardiff or leave to us for free.

I'm not trying to troll or wind-up anyone, but I'm just trying to convey my own and the general opinion of Cardiff fans. I'm going to take back what I said about Gunnarsson; I think they're very similar players. I'll also retract the comment that Mutch is better than him, I'll apologise for that. He does however have 5 years on Joe.

Lets be honest here, how many times have you boys seen the players I listed play? I doubt you've seen very much of them. Whereas I've seen them all play for my club frequently, as well as Joe for us and for you.

Whittingham is a no brainer, he's a much better footballer than Ledley; he can score and assist from almost anywhere in the half. Ledley may be a lot more impressive in terms of physical attributes, but he hasn't got the creativity and technical skills that Whittingham possesses.

Gunnarsson is captain of his country, and is close to leading his team out in the next world cup. He is actually very similar to Ledley in terms of play style and drive. Kim Bo Kyung, well, you're going to have to trust me on this one, because I'm positive this will be his break-out season.

As you can see, it would be pretty pointless us buying Ledley when we have 4 players who are around his level. I did however forget to take into account the fact he can play left-back, but he doesn't excel there quite like at CM.

    Kyogo. A phenomenon
You boys not meant to have lodged a bid for Capoue anyway?

Cardiff have had a 9.6m bid accepted by Toulouse for midfielder Etienne Capoue but he's waiting to see if Athletico Madrid follow up initial interest. So they have plenty of dough. 5m minimum.

I could see this happening. I`m sure Ledley would love to play for his boyhood club in that * stained league. * stupidity from the club letting him run down his contract so far

Whittingham and Ledley are two very different players though, so trying to compare the two is a non starter in my opinion. Yes, I agree that Whittingham is a more creative player than Joe, but do I think Whittingham is capable of the performances that Ledley put in against Barcelona, not a chance. Both have different qualities. And for what Cardiff are looking for in this coming season, Ledley would be a better player to have in your team I reckon. I doubt Cardiff will dominate many games this season if truth be told, and Whittingham is a ball player.

I'd be gutted to see him though for any kind of money. The most rated 'underrated' player at Celtic park. :icon_mrgreen:

We need to start signing the players we have up to longer contracts and not letting them run down. Give him and Sammy new contracts!

I'm not sure really; if Whittingham plays in a midfield trio next to players physical players who can help give him space, then he could be lethal. He's the type of player who only needs one sight of goal, one yard to make a pass. Not to mention his prowess from set pieces, he can turn a game in a second, and I have no doubt he will win us points next season.

This is sort of the point I was trying to make; Ledley offers similar qualities to Gunnarsson and Mutch in terms of energy and physicality. Gunnar is probably a wee bit more suited to us atm however, since he seems to have more aggression than Joe.

I know that mate, I've seen him play a lot for Celtic.

Just to make it clear, I myself have no ill feelings towards Joe, quite the opposite actually. He scored vital goals at Wembley that will always be remembered by the club. I understand why he chose you lot over Stoke City, even if a lot of fans don't. I remember the mad night out after Joe scored the winner in the old firm with my Celtic supporting mate. I believe we ended up singing 'Sweet Joe of mine' at karaoke somewhere :smiley-laughing002:

I've got nothing but respect for the boy, but the fact is, he's too similar to what we've got, and from the wages I've seen quoted on this page, it would be pretty mad for us to sign him.

Yes, but you were comparing Ledley and Whittingham, and really the two are not comparable as they offer different qualities. Gunnarsson might have been superb for you against Championship opposition, but Joe has proved he is capable of playing against the very best, and keeping them quiet for the whole game. I might be wrong here, but I highly doubt Gunnarsson would have been capable of the performances that Ledley showed both home and away against Barcelona.

He's not going anywhere surely, the guys class and we couldn't sell him and Wanyama in the same window with no replacement lined up.

Vic and Hoops leaving were blows, no doubt. Ledley leaving at this point in time would be a catastrophe imo.

If Ledley leaves I would be gutted. Important player who always shows up in the big games aswell as doing a job in the smaller games. Always gd for an important goal aswell.
