I think Joe has under estimated the intelligence of the Celtic support --- the green and white side of Glasgow don't do GULLIBLE .... i think Joe has confused us with Daily Record readers..

if he wanted to play in the premiership then why not say so ... let the club know, let the fans know and give your all until a good offer comes along... but please don't make out that you left because Celtic accepted an offer for you when you were the one who would not put pen to paper

most of us on here wish you well in your career, but spare us the patter and you will be a welcome guest any time you want to watch CL football because you most certainly will not be playing in those games with Palace

Pretty much spot on, there will be a few who blame the board/lenny no doubt but THAT'S FOOTBALL :icon_mrgreen:

To be fair, the board is partially culpable. It is widely reported they offered him a contract in Sepetember - that is far too late for my liking.

I don't see why people think it's such an unlikely idea that the board wanted Joe Ledley to take a pay cut - they're asking Samaras to take one! I wouldn't be at all surprised if Celtic had asked Joe Ledley to sign a new contract on lower terms. If they did then I don't blame Joe for taking some time out to consider his options before signing.

He comes across to me as a pretty down to earth, honest guy who enjoyed his time here and only ever had good things to say about the club and the fans. I'm not going to turn on him just because he's moved on to Crystal Palace(especially when there's a good chance that the board are to blame for him leaving).

And why wouldn't they!? Sammy's done *-all to justify the same wage... far less a higher one!

I wouldn't take a pay cut to do my job and Ledley is no different, why should he, it's not as if we're skint.

He was obviously happy to stay and holding out for a better deal. Celtic thought they could do better so accepted an offer for him.

    That's football, these things happen.

I wouldn't offer Samaras any kind of deal, never mind a pay cut!

If he was ready to sign an extension to his contract he must have been happy with the terms, but because the club accepted an offer from Palace he thought it was time to go. Don't make me laugh,he thought he was billy big baws and waited till the death for a decent team to come in for him, sadly for him there was no * interested so he went to Palace and to try and save face he tries to blame Celtic for accepting an offer for him.

Sickening article. Either it's true or he's talking *, no good alternative. Horrible.

I don't think he's talking *. He has nothing to gain from it does he? And he's never came across as a player like that.

Even Lenny said he was confident he was signing.

A true Celtic man would have taken a 100% pay cut, ran through brick walls, converted to Catholicism and adapted strong Irish Republican views to stay, otherwise PUNT HIM. Didn't look interested.

Why did we accept a measly bid from Palace, then?

The quotes just raise too many questions. I don't like the thought that we just let him slip through our finger, either.

Really liked Joe quite gutted he left especially for a team like Palace no disrespect to them, suppose we'll never know if he's telling the truth or whatever. Onwards and upwards we've lost better players.

    All the best Joe!

Because it was the last day of the transfer window and our board don't like to take chances when there is money involved.

I've said this from the start. Nobody will ever know except the suits at the top and Ledley himself how much was on the table, but I have a feeling we asked him to take a pay cut. The main reason we were able to give him the wage we did initially was because we got him on a free.
