Jeremy Toljan

WITH hours to go on deadline day, right-back Jeremy Toljan penned a six-month loan deal with the Scottish champions, that sees him join the club until the summer. And Brendan Rodgers reckons the talented full-back has all the credentials to succeed at Paradise.

Speaking at Lennoxtown, the manager said: “We’re delighted. Jeremy’s obviously a very talented player coming from one of the big leagues, he’s got what I like in full-backs, in terms of athleticism and quality with the ball. We’re delighted to get it done in the end, and obviously he’s here until the end of the season and I look forward to working with him.”

Brendan Rodgers explained he’s had his eye on Toljan for some time, and expressed delight in getting the deal over the line yesterday (Thursday). The manager’s plan is now getting the 24-year-old up to full fitness, and ultimately into the squad.

The manager added: “A lot of work has gone into that with the club, in getting that over the line, and obviously Jeremy has had to sacrifice a little bit as well, so that shows you his mentality in wanting to come here and play.

"It’s very good for us. He’s a player that can defend the middle of the field well as a full-back, but he can also get out and he’s very fast and dynamic in those situations. He’ll add to our squad and we’re delighted he’s here, especially with the likes of Tony Ralston now out injured.

“He’s played some games over the winter break for Dortmund, so we’re just going to assess his fitness. He’s got a real natural fitness but, of course, that’s different to game fitness. He’s straight in, we’re assessing the levels he’s at, and then I’m sure he’ll be in fairly soon, whether that’s Sunday or not, he’ll be up to speed fairly soon

 

Good signing , going by Rodgers comments he looks almost ready to start in terms of fitness, wich should end Lustig.

 

Lustig is such a character and he is Celtic mad, it's hard to see his pace going but I don't want to see any of our full backs get turned like that again, it's one of the most obvious moves in football, Cruyff had to make it an art form to disguise it. Toljan sounds like he's too fast for that.

Just thinking if everything clicks, we could be playing some fantasy football. It sounds like we're going to have 9 attacking players Toljan loves to score so he'll be a flyer on the same wing as Jamesy, with Eddy and (Johnston I wish) but probably Weah/Burke in the middle with Sincy looking well up for it on the other wing along with Izzy who's been fancying his chances recently taking a few shots, then there's Callum and Christie who always make something happen and if that's not happening there's the masterful Ajer who I'm sure ran into the 6 yard box last game ffs how can we have 9 forwards, with Broony and Gordon covering our half, that would mean a 3 man defence? Brendan used that to good effect at Liverpool didn't he? Then there's KT still to return.

Man I was greetin' about not having enough defenders an hour ago and Brendan said we can't afford any, he would say that though, no one is messing with his total attacking football ambitions.

 

What's the deal with the pay cut? I thought with loans players they got their normal wages wether it be split between both clubs or paid in full by one? Anyway welcome! Can't wait to have his pace in the team and KT back!

Thought he wasn’t fantastic when he came on. I really hope we’ve got an option on him because he looks like the kind of quality we’ve been asking for.

 

Thought he was decent when he came on. Looks quick and was always available up the park, made a couple of tackles.

Looks like he will start on Wednesday.

Thought he was good when he came on, night and day from Lustig.

 

The fact he can run means he’s an automatic upgrade now.

Need to be given a run especially if Forrest is out for a while.

Not 1 player got past him when he came on, not sure how anyone can say there not impressed. Sure he maybe didn't get on the over lap as much as expected but that's because their full backs dropped deeper in the second half
