    I think the apology's fair enough. He did mumble that bit to obscure it so it's quite a reasonable explanation. Still a bit stupid. He shouldn't have used it if he had to do that. I always thought "catch a tiger by its toe" was the well-known version of the rhyme...

    I didn't even know about the older 'best known' version. Always known it as tiger.

    If he was aware of the racial slur version, why not go with the tiger version and make it more audible instead of trying to obscure the offensive word?
