If Real go for Alonso and they end up with Frimpong and Davies as their fullbacks they'll be pretty much unstoppable.

Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong is reportedly "ready" to leave the club this summer - which would see Celtic bank a bumper sell-on payday.

The full-back has been a key figure in helping Xabi Alonso's side claim an historic first Bundesliga title and an unbeaten domestic campaign last year - and has remained a key figure for the club this term both domestically and in the Champions League.

The former Celtic defender also saw his his star rise at Euro 2024 with the Netherlands and the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid have all been touted as potential destinations.

Sky Germany now report that the 24-year-old is "planning a move in summer" with clubs in Spain and England "two concrete options for him".

A €40million (£34million) price tag has been floated for the defender with the Scottish Premiership champions holding a 30 percent sell-on fee as part of the £11million deal that allowed Frimpong to leave the club for Leverkusen back in January 2021.

That would be a welcome £10.2million boost to Brendan Rodgers' coffers as he looks to strengthen the squad for another tilt at the Champions League - with a host of key figures at Parkhead touted with potential exits.

After talisman Kyogo Furushashi left in the winter window, the likes of Alistair Johnston, Nicolas Kuhn and Reo Hatate have all been linked as the next big name out of the door in line with Celtic's player-trading model.

Arne Slot's side are said to still be among the admirers of Frimpong as they prepare for life without Trent Alexander-Arnold - despite some reports in Germany suggesting that a La Liga switch was top of the full-back's wishlist.

Alexander-Arnold looks increasingly likely to depart for Real Madrid on a free in the summer with his contract at the Premier League leaders ticking down - with reports suggesting that a deal is already on the table for the England international to make a move to the Bernabeu.

Should a switch to Anfield get over the line, it would allow the Scottish title winner to fulfil his Liverpool prophecy - having turned down a switch as youngster before making a move to Manchester City.

Speaking to Rising Ballers last month, he revealed: "I was playing striker and scored a hat-trick in a final, I won player of the tournament. There were scouts there like Liverpool, Bolton, Man City and a lot more were present.

"But I chose Liverpool first. I was going to sign for them but back then, driving wasn't a thing, my family wasn't driving like that and it was far.

"And obviously, Man City was local so I tried Man City next and it made more sense. It was 15 minutes on the bus, so yeah

Aye the Ferencvaros debacle was nearly 5 years ago. The reason I mention that game is because Frimpong was rumoured to be one of the wantaway players Lennon referred to

Hopefully this happens, it feels like it’s being touted for ages.

Also the transfer fee that is quoted relates to a release clause that German media reported last year has expired so it may be a higher fee. Although our sell on was always reported previously as 30% of profit not the total fee. The two may balance out though it he goes for a higher fee.

Good to see he's doing well, comes across as a genuinely likeable guy without the arrogance and entitlement of a lot of younger players these days.

Possibly one of our savviest bits of business depending upon the eventual fee. He wasn't developing sufficiently under us and tbh we probably needed something different in that position. It's not often you lose a young first-team prosepct, don't really feel it on pitch, and manage to pocket a * tonne of cash in the process.

Not in the summer, but by October we had let him talk to Leverkusen and Dortmund and were negotiating fees. And he was by then, but we were happy with him still, he was playing the same and applying himself the same the full time. I know someone who was close to that situation, he told me that at the time. Thought he was at it, then he left to Leverkusen, when there wasn’t any rumours about it until it was happening. He said up until the last minute, everything was set for him to go to Dortmund until Leverkusen manager at the time talked to him and showed he was wanting him and gave him guarantees of first team, if he does what he can.

I’ve had a couple of second hand insights for transfers, it’s mad how different it seems than the perception we have as fans. They’re a drawn out process, more than we usually know.

Liverpool seems likely destination as TAT to RM suggests Slot will prioritise Frimpong while Barça would rotate him with Koundé

Might be if it’s a an actual real rumour for Barca, it’s to move Kounde back into the middle next to Cubarsi, he’s been brilliant at RB but the season you signed him, him as a CB was one of the best in the world CB. And I’ve always felt it’s a shame he’s been moved out that position, he’s not a natural RB still IMO. He’s just that quality that even not being his natural position, he has thrived still.

Would be good to see him at CB again I think. Similar to Puyol in a way when he was younger, being shifted to RB. He was good there, but that’s not what he was.

Wonder if Man U will look at him..

He'd be ideal for Amorim's system..

    Hopefully a bidding war ensues.

Every club is ‘skint’ (apart from Celtic it seems) but you have to speculate to accumulate - if they don’t spend money they’re going nowhere fast.

Think they’re skint for Man Utd sort of skint and they’ll play on it a bit a well, Man Utd usually end up with inflated fees, because they pay it and everyone knew they had money

They'll sack the guy who cleans the bogs to help pay a day's wages for one player. Just the kind of scummy club they are.

Aye, what happens if more than one team meet the clause?
