Was just looking at that, he has played about 4 games at left back since 2017 :56: the last of which was nearly 2 and a half year ago.

Why would we need a buy option if he's out of contract in the summer.

He's in to cover a position till the end of the season mate. Think you need to calm down a bit!

Rodgers knows what he's getting with Schlupp.

How is that so? KT is in this summer, he will be number 1, if GT goes we get a replacement in for him in the summer, this deal makes sense to me

Yeah don’t get why some are losing their * at this one. Good solid EPL pro that brings physicality and versatility. Basically exactly what we need and if he’s good we get him permanently for free.

With Tierney not coming, I'm happy with this. We've moaned so often about GT not having the physicality, Schlupp is a strong physical player with loads of high level experience. At 32, he's not over the hill. Can cover midfield and LW also.

With GT not signing a new contract yet, Schlupp might be coming in as first choice LB.

Excuse my ignorance, but is he signing as a LB, ya?

    *edit - he is, nevermind.

LB, CM and LW cover pretty much.

    Indeed.

Think folk are expecting Roberto Carlos in for 6months until Tierney arrives home...

Probably mainly as a squad player but primarily back-up left-back.

He mostly plays on the left wing and the last time he really started games he played for years as a starting centre-mid.

He hasn't really played left-back since the first half of the 2017-18 season.

Not an inspiring signing, feels like a standard deadline day panic loan

He's a stop gap until the summer. Realistically we were never spending on a LB this window unless it was to get Tierney in early. The curve ball came from letting the Valle loan be cut short who imo was always the stop gap until we managed to get Tierney in the summer anyway therefore was unlikely to sign on a permanent regardless

I know we were never going to sign prime Roberto Carlos for 6 months but this may be it for the window and that is massively underwhelming.

I think Taylor will be signing a new contract, it'll be Taylor and Tierney as LBs next season

For what’s a six-month loan, it doesn’t sound too bad.

No, in all honesty I expected to keep Valle until the Summer.

Regarding Europe, I think the club have thrown in the towel anyway. But with Taylor running down his contract and seemingly leaving, I would have thought we'd be on the lookout for a young LB who can be KT's understudy..

Either that or promote one of our own from the youth ranks. Both would be sensible approaches that suggest forward planning or a potential pathway for our younger players.

Schlupp is just a weird stop gap that makes little sense unless they think they need him for the Bayern games as a midfielder. Otherwise I'm not sure why he's necessary.
