Due to his technique on the ball, ability to beat a man, great pace, he's good in the air etc

Same would go for Van Dijk for me, if we came up against an SPL team who had Van Dijk and Denayer as their strikers they'd cause us more problems than any team we've faced in Scotland in years as they are vastly superior footballers than anything we've seen in Scotland in a long time.

Hence why even under Ronny and with Efe at right back for about half the season or Matthews who was slaughtered most of the season, they had the best defensive record in the SPL for nearly 100 years.

How many goals did van Dijk score when he was pumped up front?

    Put the glue down.........

I don't think it works that way though. Rooney might not be Suarez but he has a strikers instincts and I'd trust him to put the ball in the net 9/10 before I'd trust a technically gifted defender. Natural strikers just have a knack of being in the right place at the right time, find space, getting that last minute touch etc.

They had about 25 goals and assists between them for us last season from centre-half.

No but like Van Dijk we probably won't see a centre-half of his calibre for a long, long time. Two of the best to have kicked a ball for Celtic.

Tell you what though, Denayer was superb at picking up the 2nd ball in the box when we were attacking. Had a knack for that :smiley-laughing002:

I watched their Cup final the other week, Galatasaray and he could have had a few goals in it, seemed to spend quite a bit of time in the Fenerbahce box and got on the end of 2/3 crosses.

In Scotland he's playing way below his level that he's vastly superior in all departments. Like when Lee McCulloch went to the 4th tier and scored about 30 goals half of them as a defender.

I can see what he means, coming up against generally very poor quality opposition, and playing for us as a defender when we are attacking 90% of the time domestically.

I can see how people could be a bit annoyed at the comment as it seems dismissive of our entire league.

I can see how his comments may have been twisted.

But how the * does this reply make even the smallest bit of sense??

I'm not sure what you need spelled out for you?

If playing at Celtic was as easy as he suggested, why didn't we win the Champions League when he was here?

Playing at Celtic isn't all domestic competition. What are you struggling to understand?

Yet again you are blabbing on about absolute nonsense. He was clearly talking about domestic football in Scotland. Your statement is pure drivel.

Aye it's so clear he didn't say it. Well done Watson. :smiley-laughing002:

He said "much more so than at Celtic where it was too easy.”

Nowhere did he mention the SPFL.

Well, in that case, why didn't the superior overlord that is Jason Denayer win every single domestic competition going in the yar he was at Celtic?

Yet we didn't qualify for the CL so it couldn't have been that easy he never mentioned just the SPL he mentioned the loan as a whole

He only made 17 appearances for Galatasary most of them at RB so he either struggled there or the coaching staff deemed him not good enough

Whether he was talking about us personally, the league or whatever, it's not really the point is it? This sort of * does nothing to help the image of our league.

He's went down in my estimation after that.

I would still have him back though. :smiley-laughing002:
