Hes better than Mangala and Demichelis. Mangala is clumsy as * and a big diddy like Sakho of Liverpool and Demichelis has no pace and is an average defender.

Wasnt long ago they were playing that Nastasic when he was only 20/21 and Denayer is easily better than him, much faster, strong and better on the ball.

If I was City id have him in my team next season from the start.

Look at some of the nuggets playing near the top of the EPL... Fonte, Smalling/Jones/Evans/Rojo, Sakho/Lovren, Zouma/Cahill, I dont like any of the Arsenal centre halves either. Theres hardly anyone that good so no reason why Denayer couldnt get games for any of them.

I agree but they fork out £20m for a defender. They're going to start those players ahead of home grown so they can justify the fees.

He's stupid if he's going to go back there and expect a chance. He'll spend a season or two in the reserves and then move to a Stoke and do/win nothing.

He should stay here for a couple of years. Guaranteed game time and get some trophies. Plenty of time to earn mega bucks.

The majority of the guys you just mentioned are international footballers who have loads of experience at the top level. Denayer could be better/as good, but he's not there yet.

No really there are average average players playing for the top 7 EPL teams, probably why they are so bad in Europe now.

Smalling, Jones, Evans, Rojo, Zouma, Sakho, Lovren, K.Toure, Mangala, Chambers, Chiriches, Dier, Kaboul, Yoshida, Fonte, Alderwiereld.

How good are they guys? not very good for me, not that Denayer is miles better but id say for definite he is a more skilled footballer than any of them and as fast if not faster than any of them.

Even the best centre-halves in England Terry, Kompany, Vertonghen, Skrtel, Koscielny, Cahill, Mertesacker, Demichelis.... hardly anything special either.

Emre Can from Liverpool has probably been one of the best centre-backs in England this year and hes a fairly inexperienced player and also a centre-midfielder playing there.

Mangala at Porto was a far better player than Denayer's current level.

I don't follow world football anymore (not since 2006), did Mangala go on to fulfill his potential?
I'm not being lazy here, I will google it too; I just wanted your opinion.

Edit: Oh, he plays for City. TBF it looks like he was older at Porto than Denayer is.

I dont know never watched much of him but from seeing him at Man City hes basically a replica of Sakho from Liverpool and he even gets a game for France ahead of him.

Such a big clumsy numpty of a player. Id rather have Denayer or Van Dijk than him.

Not yet, who knows but he's one season into his Coty career.

There's a reason he went for £30m, he was an all round defender. Dunno what's happening with him at City.

When he first arrived it looked like he was learning from Virgil. Now he looks just as good as him.

Will there ever be a £30m player to come out of Scotland?

The Portuguese league isn't that far off SPFL standard. Some of the teams are utter tripe.

If Denayer has as good a career as Demichelis he'll have done well.

The guy looks class but he's got a long way to go before he establishes himself as a top Premier League/International defender.

Doesnt mean hes that good though, did that Bruno Alves not go from Porto for about £25million to Russia as well about 5 years ago, hes hardly world class.

Sakho, Lovren, Mangala and Zouma are all top defenders. The first 3 happen to play for teams with little protection of their back line, while Zouma is a class act for his age. You also named Southampton's two centre halves who have been excellent all season.

Van Dijk is a really good defender, Denayer is good. Both with the potential to be top players but both with a bit to go. Denayer in particular hasn't even matured physically yet. Both had a hard time in Europe but inexperience does that to you. I think Van Dijk is ready to give down there a go. Denayer could go with a year in France or something.

People on here go absolutely over the top on both sides. You aren't far off saying we have the best CB partnership in Britain. * are calling Guidetti *. We aren't good enough or * enough in either case.

The difference is, they have a strong recent (and less recent, to be fair) history of producing/developing top quality players. It also helps that the top teams in their League are far stronger than in Scotland.

A lot of players have signed for Portugese sides in recent years and done very well, and the Portugese sides have performed very well in Europe. It's all about reputation.

If we continue successfully selling players who then perform well, more teams will come looking at our players. Forster, Wanyama, Ki and Ledley have all done well in the Premier League, which will encourage other teams to do their shopping in Scotland.

Denayer isn't world class either though. He was very good at Porto.

Aye, they have a decent history of excellent players coming from there Figo, Rui Costa, Carvalho, Deco, C.Ronaldo, Pepe, D.Luiz, J.Rodriguez, Di Maria, Falcao.

And a lot of other good ones like Nani, Bruno Alves, Tiago, Maniche, Ferreira, Moutinho and that.

If the SPL could even have two players a decade who pass through our League and go on to be world class we may see values rise a lot.
