He looks a real prospect, no doubt about it, but there's no chance in * he'll make the breakthrough at City. The way the club is being run they'd rather buy a 20m + centre half as cover than promote a youth team player unless he's a Spanish/South American wonderkid.

We should look to take advantage of that if he keeps up the good performances but I imagine there will be other clubs keeping an eye on how he does, especially if we qualify for the CL.

Had a really shaky start to the game with the poor pass back and got pushed of the ball easily when Gordon had to come off his line but I will put that down to nerves

Once he settled he looked a decent acquisition to the team and took his goal well but I am still split between him and efe as I have grown to really like the big man ( and his celebration) but denayer took his goal like a centre forward instaed of a defender

Don't be so daft! No one in their right mind would turn down a move to a club as big as City are now, much less in order to play for a Belgian second tier side. :56:

City can now match the world's elite clubs in every department. You wouldn't accuse the boy of being all about the money if he joined Real Madrid or Barcelona, would you? City may not be a big club historically but when they can offer him the best coaching and training facilities about, the chance to learn his trade from the best players in the game and the chance to breakthrough at a club that really should be challenging for the European Cup, he'd have to be clinically insane to turn it down.

Not to mention the chance to work under Patrick Vieira an absolute legend of the modern game.

Yes caught out a few times but then made up for it with another with his pace

Likes a tackle comfortable on the ball at times clears from danger when needed give him a few games he will be a regular

Also liked efe at right back for once yesterday

I hope he isn't in the starting lineup against Maribor, I'd much rather start with Lustig at centerback and Ambrose at right back. He made a lot of defensive mistakes in the first half, Dundee United didn't punish us but Maribor probably would.

Thought the big guy had a good game yesterday after his early nerves, To be truthful not happy with this signing as there is no option to buy. I don't mind the loan signings like Tonev coming in but we need an option to buy at the end.

If he has a cracking season or two here, I won't be complaining. I'd rather have him in than someone of inferior quality who's going to stay for years.

I said in my original post I don't blame him one bit for choosing City, I know what they can offer, but I think they signed him as a 14 or 15 year old player, and my response was solely aimed at the point someone made about him wanting 1st team football - if you're wanting 1st team football as a 15 year old then you don't sign for Man City!

As already mentioned, no matter how well he does here, there is virtually no chance he'll ever play for City. Mangala is only 23 and they've just splashed 32 million on him. Kompany's got years left in him, Nastastic is way further down the line in his development than Jason - probably no members of City's current youth side will make the breakthrough there, although some could well go on to be stars elsewhere.

What 15 year old is looking for first team football? Most players don't make their first team debuts until the age of 18 or 19 anyway and many make it later. He's now a first team player here at 19 after enjoying a first class education at City. Perfect development, I'd say.

    Yeah I know....

I was responding to this post though,
Also, at risk of continuing a pointless argument - I would say City's youth coaching is no better than Celtic's. Certainly our kids have beaten them (convincingly) every time we've played in recent years, which isn't much to go on, but we do have a far longer track record when it comes to developing players.

Anyway he's here now and i'm behind him all the way. (metaphorically)

I think that's still an unfair criticism in that case. He's been playing football at City. It's not as if he was sitting on his *. What I took from the original post is that it looks like he enjoys himself out on the pitch.

Judging on his debut, I'd happily have him here for 2 seasons and then send him back to City.

This boy has got it, We need to sign Denayer he might not be the finished article yet and he looks as if he is used to having a lot more time and space on the ball than the SPFL will offer him but he hit the ground running and didn't look out of place.

What a great debut for a 19 year old defender, Was unlucky for the deflection, he should not have turned away from the shot but he will probably have been told that some point after the game by the coaching staff.

I was also dead impressed by him in the challenge and the number of successful tackles he made. If we don't buy this boy we are missing out big time.

I'm thinking if he can put performances in like that every week, we need to enquire about a permanent deal as soon as possible, if the player's happy to stay, before he's well beyond our reach financially.

Guy looks great but why develop another teams player when no chance of signing him?

Lets face it this guy will never be our player but if he builds on his debut with more good performances hopefully we can have him on loan for a a couple of seasons.
