Thought I'd gauge a bit of consensus on what we want or need in January.
Unfortunately for me, LB is still the priority.
Valle is a loanee we have little chance of signing, and Taylor is done.
I know that sounds harsh but he's a constant liability in Europe, and the weakest link in what is otherwise a solid defence. Plus his contract situation. Let him ride the bench for the rest of season and leave at the end if it. The English Championship is calling.
I think we need that LB and a new winger.
I want a LB, a winger, And a real bruiser of a DMF.
Should only run us about 25-30m altogether :36:

Left Back (KT or similar),
Left Wing to compete with Maeda as 1st choice,
Lennon Miller buy and loan back to M'well, if we can lure him here he is a must for me.
I'd also ship out Palma, Tilio, Kwon and Bernie.Last edited: Dec 11, 2024 at 6:52 PM -
We absolutely need a LB, as usual. Even if Taylor signs a new deal. Valle will likely return to Barcelona in the summer and we need to plan for the no doubt tricky CL Qualifier.
If we can shift Palma, I'd like to see Yang loaned to another Premiership Team and two wingers of real quality brought in. The drop off from Maeda to Kuhn is quite stark..
We may also need to look at the RB situation, as think we may struggle to keep AJ and as much as I love Ralston he's limited..
I'd be happy with that..martin_d, LectersLuncheon and Peej like this. -

What we need and what we'll do are two different things. We need a starting LB, a RB of a similar level to AJ, a starting LW to replace Maeda and a CF to replace Kyogo. Of those I would expect the LW and maybe the CF to be done in the summer window rather than the winter. LB is the main priority but it has been for years now and still hasn't been properly addressed. Whether the club agree with what I think we need is anyone's guess, I don't think they'll be looking at any new RB for instance.

Left back situation needs sorted and a wing option. Everything else is a want as opposed to a need.

Yeah, a left back is priority. Not a project or a loan deal but someone with the pedigree that can go straight into the starting 11. I hope we keep Taylor but as a rotation option rather than a first choice every week.
I feel like if we signed real quality and that is all we got I'd be happy given the difficulty of finding talent in January.
But if I'm being greedy, proper competition at right back and another winger option. But realistically I think both of these could wait until the summer when we probably need to have a proper look at our various loaned out players and try to get some off the books. We have so many cheap punts stinking out our squad we probably need them moved on before we bring in any more.neilly1987 and Random Review like this. -
Aye left back and a good option out wide. I think Kuhn and Maeda are suffering a bit from having to play as many minutes. International football isn’t have helped in Maeda’s case either. Travelling half way round the world for games.

Quality over quantity left back and winger who is lw but can play across the front three. Hopefully get Palma, bernabei, nawrocki moved on

Left back and winger are a must.
A young CB would be good as well. -

Left wing & Defensive/centre mid are essential (we need to be able to rotate & support McGregor)
I can wait for summer to get a left back if those two come in -
LW
DM
Happy to wait until the Summer for a DM. But the LB and LW positions need addressing as a matter of urgency in January.
No loans or projects please, unless the loan option is for a player of considerable quality with an option/obligation to buy later on.
Failing to address these positions would be negligent. Let's hope the club show a bit of ambition.martin_d, neilly1987, LectersLuncheon and 2 others like this. -

Also agree with Yang being loaned out. Think with a decent amount of game time he could become a good squad player but he won't get enough minutes here. Palma looks like he'll be away so that pays for his replacement. -
I would be happy with a decent left winger.
I can't see us getting another midfielder as we have a surplus at the moment, unless someone leaves in January. If Valle stays, then I don't see the need for another LB. -
Out:
Palma,
Narwocki,
Holm,
Tilio,
Bernie (sad face),
Kwon,
Lagerbeilke.
That should clear up the remaining surplus players currently at the club and the loan players just not desired at all.
Realistically the loans more dealt with in summer.
In:
Left Back,
Centre Back,
Winger,
Third Striker,
Lennon Miller,
Left back needs sorted, for about the 6th season in a row now.
If Valle was to sign permanently and Taylor renew, I'd be happy enough.
If Valle was to sign and KT on a pre contract. Happy.
If Taylor renews and KT comes on a pre contract, happy.
Just get it sorted. If that combination doesn't happen, then we likely are looking at needing two left backs by summer time. So sort it ASAP.
Centre back I'm content with, but for the UCL level we need another CB that is gonna push CCV and Trusty(the going forward partnership) up a level. Scales stays as the 4th choice squad player. We need 4 for true competition and ability to rotate and rest as much as we ideally want to, not forced to.
With Palma shifted on, I would also look to loan out Yang to see if consistency can help kick him on. Think we all agree there is something there, but we aren't known to develop players in some ways, so a loan may help both us and him.
That said, need a winger to come in for sure in January.
Maeda, Kuhn, Forrest - our only reliable wingers. Another left sided one would be good. Yang then back in summer ready to kick on and perhaps let Forrest ease through the seasons ahead again.
Third striker, could be Cummings for all I care, but perhaps is a less of a priority for January.
And Lennon miller. Doesn't need discussed at this stage.
Left back, centre back, left winger, third striker, Lennon miller.
Needs addressed. -

As has been mentioned..
That whole left flank needs freshness and different quality options..
A pacey overlapping fullback who isn't tiny, has a bit of physicality and can cross a ball..
A left winger with pace who can go by a man and has some guile, more a Kuhn type than Maeda..Mr Shelby, martin_d, neilly1987 and 4 others like this. -

Are decent quality Left backs really that hard to come by?
How many seasons has our side been dying on its feet for want of one.
We just have to bite the bullet and pay for one, its as simple as that. Doesn't matter if Ltb, or a permo, it needs done asap.
6-8m gets us one with a decent to high probability of success.
Christ i remember like 3 seasons ago somebody posted a list of 5 or 6 LBs, all under 10m, all plers, all gettable.Peej, neilly1987 and The_Bhoy like this.
