Yes, exactly. England is the most overpriced market in the world. You would pay many times more for a player with the same ability than you would find in Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, even Holland or Belgium. If they are concerned about saving money and penny pinching, this is not where they should be signing from.

FC Koln 9 places below us. You should take a look at some of the transfer fees they've been paying this season. Clearly re-investing the money they brought in.

If no other business is done this is a typical Celtic transfer window. Get a talented project in that is loaned back for the rest of the season and signing a defender that gets injured for a month just after joining. :31:

I’m not very optimistic tbh. Brendan said he wanted to get in his transfer targets before heading over to Dubai and we got Morgan and Compper in. Hoping that doesn’t mean that’s all we are getting.

While many in here are surprised with where we sit on the average wage list compared to other Clubs you just need to look at our ambition.

When was the last time we invested into a striker over £6m? We haven’t.

When was the last time we spent over £4m up front for a Midfielder? 10/11 years ago for Brown.

All these Clubs push out the boat that are under us and around about us, yet for some reason theres this massive propensity that “we cannae dae this” “we cannae dae that” or “we haveny got the funds”

Its all PISH. Nonsense. Just a reflection of the board unwilling to push the boat out.

Even Dev pointed out Lawwell recognised he has been inconsistent with doing it (2009) and that was a milestone event.

I’m waiting for the last minute sale of Dembele for £20 million followed by the old “we didn’t have enough time to bring in a replacement” and “the winter window is difficult to find players” excuses.

I’m sorry to be so negative, but I’ve just seen this movie so many times before with Celtic.

Bar the top few teams in each league and all EPL teams we most definitely can compete with the majority of players wages. Transfer fees are risky because we don’t have the steady income of any of those other teams on that list. Makes you wonder why we don’t sign more free agents though

100% it was criminal when he never backed WGS and we ended up with Willo Flood.

    * crazy to think it’s less than a week to deadline day and the transfer rumours section has had nothing on it today apart from me saying close Subotic thread! Wow * wow on the year I have been on here i don’t think during 3 windows I have seen it go almost a day without a link, rumour or update!

They will only splash out if they feel under threat and thats not happening anytime soon ..we might get a loan in though.

Rodgers is more interested in ADDING to his squad this transfer window.

He added: “For me, we have to. We have to. There’s no question that’s something we need to do. I’m very happy with the group of players I have.

“We’ll also have some returning from injury who will make us stronger again.

“But we wanted to bring in players in this window who would add quality. Sometimes that takes a wee bit of time.”

Rodgers is also in no doubt that his squad is in need of further reinforcements before the transfer window closes next week. So far, the January window has seen Celtic make just two signings in the shape of German defender
Marvin Compper from RB Leipzig and St Mirren midfielder Lewis Morgan who has been loaned back to the Paisley club for the rest of the season.

“For me, we have to strengthen,” said Rodgers. “We have to. There’s no question that’s something we need to do.

“I’m very happy with the group of players that I have. We’ll also have some returning from injury who will make us stronger again. But we wanted to bring in players in this window who would add quality. Sometimes that takes a wee bit of time.

“You’re not just relying on going and paying the money. You need to rely on the timing from the other club so we’re hopeful we can bring in that quality.

“I could have signed 20 players up until now, or more. I could have changed my whole squad if I wanted to. But I needed to make sure it was the right quality, not just domestically but for any European football we might have further down the line.

“So that’s where we are and the club is working very hard. I know it’s boring and there’s nothing to write about. For the supporters it’s the same. But we’re working very hard to get the right ones in. That will allow us to be better. I’m happy with the squad but we want to make it stronger.”

Harsh reality is that trying to convince a player with no affiliation to celtic to move to a sub-par league and play the same poor teams 3/4 times a year is a tough sell. For all we know the players we are targeting to improve the squad have no desire to move to Scotland and end up only having 3 weeks off at the end of the season due to the number of qualifiers we need to play to get into the group stages again.

The squad doesn’t be need a drastic overhaul, just one or two tweaks in key positions and we still have plenty of time to do this if Rodgers is correct in saying that a lot of work has been going on in the background on recruitment.

Big window will be this summer when a number of players will be going into their last year. The likes of Armstrong and Rogic will be into the final 12 months of their existing deals and I think that could be the window where Brendan really lays down a marker and begins to build a team based on his own footballing principles.

I rarely read papers and haven't been keeping up with this window (rarely do because January is never not a disappointment) but what have we so far? An injury who may or may not even get a game this season and St Mirrens best player who might get a chance to develop in the SPL should St Mirren get promoted and may make the first team in a couple of years. We're going to get slaughtered in Europe.
