The zenit game is our biggest game of the season if we buy the players to try and overcome that game then they will be able to overcome the qualifiers we should be looking at the zenit game first and foremost since when did celtic have the epl attitude towards europa

CL Qualification is more important than the EL... that's what I take from what BR is saying..

The first installment of the Van Dijk money was sent yesterday, so that will cover a decent chunk of what we've paid for Compper, and what we're about to pay for Morgan.

Assume there will be more signings. There seems to be more talk about strengthening the team than there was in the window last year. I've no idea which areas we should be prioritising, but it'll be interesting to see who we get in.

When Rodgers first arrived, he talked about bringing in players who would lift the quality of the group, that's what needs to happen in this window.

My point being is the level of opponent is higher at thus stage than the cl qualifiers well zenit is. any way if we buy the players to compete in that game then we should be able to more than compete in the qualifiers successfully

Exactly this, and maybe we’ll make more of a dent in the group stages. Our goal should be higher than simply qualifying for the CL

Not saying we were completely useless but I’d be lying if I said I was satisfied with our CL campaign. A decent game against Bayern at CP and what now looks more like a lucky win in Belgium is not really something to rave about

Aye id rather have qaulified with 3 draws at home than getting pumped everytime and winning once. Still we done it in what was a disaster of a draw. Maybe next time the draw will be kind.

I actually thought the season before we gave a better account of ourselves the teams were arguably harder considering the bmg and we were unlucky not to go through we finished third on the same amount of points ill take it but I'm not gonna just look at the stats and say we had a better campaign than year before

I think we need to take advantage of Europa league and make a dent In it this season to try bump up our club coefficient and reputation when given the chance

Center mid can be our most inconsistent areas I really don’t know why we’re now thinning the herd, hopefully Rodgers has some targets in mind. I think right now a consistent creative/attacking mid should be our number one target.

Yea definitely could have been worse, we still need to set our goals higher than just getting into the group stages and zenit is a good test for us which shouldn’t be ignored. If we expect to do well in the group stages then we should expect to give them a good run

@littlekennie agreed some people are happy with 3rd place and some people are happy with good performances, personally I’d rather watch Celtic play well even if we lose as I think the results will come eventually if we perform well instead of hoping for a fluke.

You also make a good point with the changes to CL qualifying it seems they don’t want Scottish football in the CL at all but we can and should use this to our own advantage while we can and boost our own coefficient

We were excellent in Belgium but aye no doubt played them at good time.

We've had two horrendous draws in the CL tbf and the chasm is startling. It's getting more difficult to bridge that gap. To qualify for the last 16 of the CL we need a lot of luck and in the draw and during actual performances.

We have a short memory as a support sometimes, virtually the same players were so inept under Ronny we looked miles away from qualification for the CL, never mind progression through the group.

BR's record in getting us where we want to be can't be questioned.

Even with good investment in this window Qualification is still the goal and it would still be an achievement to get to the Group Stages. We have no devine right to be there and it can still be a bit of Lottery. Adding quality helps the odds no doubt.

Never take qualification for granted tho, as it won't happen every year no matter who we buy.

MON and everything that Seville side had are a casing point in that respect.

From what iv heard of the players we have been linked with so far, thats my concern also.

As good prospects as Morgan and Hendry have been touted, it inspires no real confidence for Zenit, which Comper is obviously inelgible to play in.
Whilst Mcginn may be regarded as a better player in the SPL, there would be serious doubt as to if he could make the jump to the european level.

Iv not heard of McCartheys name being mentioned this window and I feel thats the calibre of player we need to take us to the next level.

Qualification ought not to remain the goal. It ought to be the goal to do well enough in Europe to earn an automatic place for the SPFL winner. That obviously requires Aberdeen and Zombie teams to pull their weight - or for us to start picking up 6 points every campaign followed by a good Europa run.

I am worried about the Zenit game. I was originally very confident when the draw came out. But having seen some Zenit play. I'm less than impressed with our chances.

Looks like the next 2 signings are exactly that in Morgan and the Aussie boy!

Scottish Football is miles away from that at the moment. Although there are signs that the quality is getting better. The problem for all Scottish teams including ourselves is retaining quality players for more than two seasons.

The more players with a Celtic connection that are involved in big money transfers, the more young talented individuals are willing to give Celtic a go.

Think about it. In 2003 when we were in the Uefa Cup Final, nobody could expect to play for Celtic and then make a big money move to an English team.

But now, they can. And that means that the most ambitious young players, rather than slog it out at Stoke - or Fulham :) - can come North, ply their trade - get a crack at the CL and then still have the big money deal and contract that motivates a lot of them.
