    Probably but I think it's something that needs to happen between this window and the next..

    Of course we're greedy and want it done but I don't think I'll be too far away with that by the summer window, plus striker movement in and out..

    I honestly think Rodgers' PROPER defensive targets were totally dependant on the money coming in from Van Dijk's possible transfer to Liverpool.

    I wonder if (I suspect it was the case) it will reflect in this transfer window.

    This Marvin Compper guy is getting some decent reviews, but surely to * we can't (once again) be made to sit here and pick the pennies looking for cheapos and freebies for the defensive areas?

    If memory serves me right - say for the last 5-6 seasons, we've only really spent money on Van Dijk, Ambrose, Boyata and Simunovic in the central positions.

    Aye, I've had a feeling we could've got a centre back in but with the VVD money, we may get in or have held out for a better calibre..

    We shouldn't be doing business like that but it would answer why we never done it in the last window..

    I've never seen the guy mate but his appearance stats are impressive alone..

    Did we spend money on Kelvin Wilson? Can't mind if he was free..

    He was a free transfer. Then Forest paid £2.61m to take him back. :84:

    Wilson was a freebie, left for about £250k I think.

    Just had a look there at how much we've paid for CB's since 2005:

    Strachan:

    Virgo £1.5m
    Pressley - £0
    Du Wei (loan)
    Dublin £0
    Loovens £2.5m

    Mowbray:

    Josh Thompson £0
    Hooiveld £2m

    Lenny:

    Mulgrew £0
    Kelvin Wilson £0
    Wanyama £900k
    Ambrose £1.5m
    Gershon loan
    Van Dijk £2.6m
    Mouyokolo £0

    Deila

    Denayer loan
    Boyata £1.5m
    Blackett loan
    Jozo Simunovic £3m (supposedly)
    Sviatchenko £1.5m

    Rodgers

    Toure £0

    2.6? No way..

    Good signing for a free..

    Liked big Wilson after he settled down playing for us. Unfortunately didn't settle with his family in Scotland..

    Was a bit weak in the air but his recovery pace and last ditch tackling were brilliant..

    Even more baffling when you take into account an integral area of our team has only had on average of about £1.3m of investment over a 13 year period....

    I’d like at least three signings who will improve us immediately - even if one is on a loan deal with the option to buy or an 18-month to 2-year loan deal.

    Given that both Hendry and Morgan will cost relatively little and that neither Hendry nor Morgan will improve us immediately, I would consider them to be essentially development signings.

    It looks terrible in black and white..

    I think the board have always been of the thinking that midfield to front is where the resale value is and therefore spend bigger..

    Vvd is the exception in that case and has hopefully broke the mould that you can spend decent money (despite a couple of decent fee's previous) and win a watch in central defence, and rake in the best part of 20 mill..

    I think that's a fairly valid point.

    There's the age old logic in fitba that you sort of the spine of your team first and foremost, then everything else fits in.

    Not with Celtic :56::56::56:

    I think we've been extremely lucky over recent years anaw - we've literally spent * all on goalies too.

    £2m for Forster after two successful loan spells (which turned into a £12m profit)

    £500k for Boruc (cannie mind how much we selt him for, think it was £4m to Fiorentina?)

    * all for Gordon.

    * all for Mark Brown

    * all for Zaluska

    * all for de Vries

    Yep and for a while now it's been our weakest area. Partly due to injuries as on paper 6 month a year ago Sviatchenko, Jozo, Boyata and Toure isn't too shabby but we've been like this for a while. It was Vvd and a loan (which shouldn't be the case at top club's) with Mulgrew filling in, and Boyata struggling..

    We definitely need it sorted. We slagged Moyes off and rightly so. He was almost a joke figure in football today but he's without question made West Ham a really hard team to beat and breakdown, due to the defence..

    I'd have Rodgers over him everyday of the week but wouldn't mind a bit of that defensive know how..

    Yep and Stevie Wood's has been an unsung hero. Amazing considering how * a keeper he was. Remember Henrik and Lubo destroying him with 7 at Fir Park..

    It seems to me we have the cash but haven't invested properly in a window for seasons. Truth is we haven't needed to. Have we spent less on transfers than we've made over the last 5yrs?

    Surely it's time to flex our financial muscle and leave the rest for dead.

    Commper another CB a RB (Or play Gamboa/ralston more) and musonda on loan would be randy marsh material for January. I'd love Gordon replaced but somehow don't see Brendan making that move now

    CD: "I don't envisage January being particularly busy for us. We'll recruit where needed and some players may move on as the squad evolves. We have a strong squad with good players but we're always looking to improve.
