heres a player I would quite like to see at celtic

Jonny Evans the 18 yo man utd defender
He has been linked with a move to sunderland after his 3 good preformances for northern ireland. He did do really well against spain and he could be a good one for the future.

    Dumitru Copil coming to celtic

Celtic set to land Romanian star

Copil was spotted by Celtic chief scout Ray Clarke

Celtic are poised beat both Hearts and Liverpool for the signature of 16-year-old Romanian Dumitru Copil.

"I will be going to Celtic on 3 January, it is now 90% complete," the teenager told the Daily Record.
"I regard this as a very big honour to join a club like Celtic because they have an excellent European tradition."
Copil - rated at £250,000 - is highly regarded in Romania and has been likened to the legendary Hagi.
His coach, Arpad Cserneczky, feels Copil is one of the biggest talents in his native land.
He said: "He is like Hagi, but Frank Lampard would be the closest British equivalent to him in terms of playing style and aggression."
And despite firm interest from Hearts, he is set to snub both the Edinburgh outfit and the Merseysiders for Celtic.
"There were offers from Hearts and Liverpool, but I have decided to go to Glasgow," explained Copil.
"I really enjoyed my time at Hearts and I wanted to become a member of that team after they showed such interest in me.
"But a week after the Hearts trial, Liverpool contacted me and I went there too.
"I liked Liverpool, but I still felt the best place to develop was at Hearts and then came the chance to go to Celtic.
"After spending time there I decided that Celtic were the best option for me," he added.
"What I want more than anything now is to play for Celtic, to have a good first year with them and to reach as high as I can get. "I still have studies to complete and in an ideal world I would like to finish them but I have to give football my full commitment."

    From bbc so it's true.

What do yous think if celtic are willing to pay 250,000 for him he must be good because we paid that much for riordan and hes 24.

    Your thoughts ?

    16?

He looks about 10 years old.

One for the future, ridiculous to start comparing him with Hagi.

What club was he with in Romania?

Romanian third division side Gloria Arad

He is now set to join Scottish champions Celtic, with a transfer fee of £250,000 and a wage of £1000 a week being discussed

and ofcoruse "post above" I don't beleve he will be playing in the first team untill he is maby 18,19 but for now we should let him play in with the youths and get use to the scottish enviroment.

and now the news has spread everywhere like mad

strachan and clarke have proved to have a great eye for players in the transfer market and if we're beating clubs like liverpool to his signature then all the better.

Strachan and Clarke certainly seems to have unearthed a gem in Evander Sno so hopefully if this lad does sign for us he will prove to be another find as well. I think Petrov was 19 when he signed for us first as well. So certainly at 16 this is a step into uncharted territory. But this type of approach looking for young eastern european talent does seem to be part of the new Celtic strategy.
I do cringe though when you hear a young lad being touted as the next Zidane or the next Van Basten etc. How many times does that ever pan out. Talk about dumping unrealistic pressure on a kids shoulders.

If he's only 16 and we're prepared to bpay £250,000 for him then high hopes are obviously pinned on the lad. We know what the boards like so he must have promising talent. However, we won't get a look at this talent, I'd presume, for around another 2 years. A grand a week for a 16 year old boy though? Jaysus christ...I'd imagine he'll put that towards getting his beak in order:37:

For us to pay £250,000 for a 16 yr old tells me he must have something going for him. Lets hope he's even half as good as everyone thinks he is.

Although i have to agree with eire4 about this comparing kids to Zidane or in this case Hagi. Why put pressure like that on them? I'm all for a bit of confidence boosting but surley this just gives them too much to live up too?

nice! i posted bout this a week or to ago, but good to see him saying hes actually coming here. the photo was in 2002 GD :56: If not i'd get him on the hormone injections!

yeah alots been said about him - thats alot for celtic to be paying for a lad his age - ive got high hopes!

I actually heard the fee was bigger - 300k up front then another 300 in appearance clauses etc.

That's fair enough, can see what angle you're coming from. Family coming from a poor country and all that carry on, fair shout.

Stadium sponsorship sounds like an easy way of raising a lot of cash. I couldn't care less if the ground name is changed.

We'd all still call it CP or Parkhead
