As Brendan confirmed we had a couple of months notice on Kyogo, so we really should already have high quality replacement identified with a very good idea they are signing by now.

Celtic have secured a stunning £9 million deal to bring Jota back to Parkhead.

The Portuguese winger was in Glasgow on Saturday night finalising his move from Ligue 1 side Rennes. Mailsport understands the 25-year-old will sign a long-term contract - believed to be for four-and-a-half years - to seal a sensational return. Celtic moved to tie up Jota after agreeing to let Japanese striker Kyogo Furuhashi go the other way for around £10 million.

Brendan Rodgers was keen to snap up a player who enjoyed two years at the Hoops under former gaffer Ange Postecoglou before being sold to Saudi outfit Al Ittihad for £25 million. And it looks like he’s got his man, with Jota’s arrival set to be rubber-stamped in the next 24 hours. Rodgers is also still trying to push through a loan deal for another ex-Celt, Kieran Tierney, from Arsenal in this January transfer window. The Scotland defender looks certain to sign a pre-contract agreement with his old club to come back permanently in the summer.

A loan switch from the Gunners this month IS still possible but Mailsport understands the potential £30million transfer of Tierney’s team-mate Oleksandr Zinchenko - to either Atletico Madrid or Borussia Dortmund - could scupper the deal. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta doesn’t want to leave himself short of left-backs as they hunt down Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

If Zinchenko goes in this window, he’ll be left with Tierney and English youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly as naturals in that position - even though the likes of Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Callafiori can fill in there. But Rodgers is hopeful that a deal can be struck for a six-month loan stint, which would see Tierney return before a Bosman move in June.

Celtic’s current left-back Greg Taylor is out of contract at the end of this season and has offers on the table from the likes of Dinamo Zagreb and Trabzonspor. So far, he’s failed to agree on a new Parkhead deal - with reports of an imminent extension wide of the mark.

Rodgers also wants to add another striker to his ranks after the departure of top scorer Kyogo. The club have a long-standing interest in Brondby hit-man Mathias Kvistgaarden but it’s understood the Danish club want a huge £13 million fee for his services.

 

If KT doesn't happen this window, we should absolutely be trying to get a combative CM/DM in the door..

Jota, Kvistgaarden/ST a DM and then KT in the summer.. in fact I'd be happier with that..

Of would I? Can i wait for a KT/Jota combo.. even a KT/Daizen would terrify ..?

 

tierney ,jota ,a dm, rw and a top of the range striker may well offset the dissapointment of losing kyogo

 

With us only able to add/change 3 for the CL, I reckon it will be 3 only.

 

i could see ,tierney,jota and a striker as the 3 for that instance but a dm and rw probably a couple of younger guys probably should be added

 

See we want real quality with the CL as one if the carrots for joining us.. so for me we can't add that quality and say but actually you're not good enough to make our European squad..

So I'd be happy with 3 in, trim the squad with the exit of the likes of Palma, Nawrocki and Yang and then add more first team quality in the summer.

 

100% we can't sign four first team players on the promise of Champions League.

Jota KT & a striker make the squad.
We could then bring in people like Lennon Miller or a young CB with the promise of league football.
If by deadline day KT isn't here I think we'll go get a third first team player in a different position

 

aye you are probably right ,just think rodgers mentioned ages ago about having an eye on the future when discussing this window

 

Probably right but don't understand why wouldn't want players in to the squad and settled for the CL qualifiers.

 

Ideally you want players in, we have a CL playoff at the end of August, so there is a little bit of time to bed players in, even if it were the summer..

 

Honestly I'd be so gutted not to get KT this window after all the speculation.

 

Anyone think we sign players that press hasn’t link us with yet. Like kuhu and idah came out blue and signed.

Tbf, we can't be too critical of the board recently.. last summer window was excellent.

Add 3 bits of quality in this window..

Another 2 in time for the Qualifier, one tie where we are seeded and we're good to go.

 

Gonna take more than one window for me to think of changing an opinion on them.

Folk done the same with Ange first season, before they all realised it was more Ange doing than the change in the board setup.

Aye, we all want consistently good windows, which we don't get..

But tbf, summer was good and this one his shaping up nicely..
