It's funny the people who are in social media are typing and abusing the man for standing against stuff he doesn't believe or want to be associated with today and in the past but when the shoe is on the other foot these people show lack of respect to other people's beliefs and what they stand for and and criticise and think it's normal!! how * hypocritical

Just had a little nosy at the WBA forums. One guy said he watched the match and said he did respect the anthem.

A few others calling for him to be axed on the back of the incident being reported.

I like that he does this sort of thing.

Don't really rate him as a player though.

Would be great to pick him up for free if WBA axed him. I dont think PL would want him here.

He has his principles being from Derry and he grew up in amongst it fair play. But he ain't a great player he is ok- which does have me saying if he is ok then maybe he deserves a try with us. As most of our players these days are ok?:50:

He's * *. Don't see anything wrong with what he did though. Wouldn't get me standing respecting an anthem with the line 'Rebellious Scots to crush'.

Fair play to him for standing by his beliefs. A Derry City player did the same thing in the FAI cup final, refusing to face the tricolour. Everyone's entitled to their own beliefs it shouldn't be blown out of proportion like it has been.

i hate when people say we should sign him because of this stuff, he would be like a 6th midfielder choice and want quite high wages. were not going to drop Brown, Biton, Johansen or Armstrong for him and id rather we played Liam Henderson than James McClean just because he refuses to wear a poppy

embarrassing seeing the huns go mental on twitter each season over it, its been 4 season in a row hes not worn a poppy, why are they still going on about it, would they expect a Pakistani or Syrian player to bow down and sing the British National Anthem? infact would they expect a french or swiss player to give a * either, in a club where not every team member is british, playing the british national anthem is totally baffling

its just something for people to complain over

I'd rather him then Armstrong on the left wing on purely footballing grounds this summer was probably he's only chance to sign won't ever happen now

Well done to hm. He certainly does not lack courage in standing up to all the crap that gets thrown his way. Footballing wise it will be interesting to see how he does at WBA this season. Despite Wigan being so bad last season he did have a good season himself so he deserves another shot at the top flight. Personally I think he is a decent more old fashion winger type player wthout being anything special. Top end of the championship bottom half of the top flight is probably his level.

Ive always thought he was a decent player espicially if he came to the SPFL he would do a job. Plus hes a better player than Forrest so could be a direct replacement, although I'm not sure if hes as good as GMS.

Apparently if he's " happy enough to play for a Brittish Club" and get his "wages in Brittish Money". Then he should be able to respect GSTQ.

Why was the national anthem played anyway? Weird one.

He kinda looks like the only one taking it serious in the pics. Everyone else looking around :smiley-laughing002:

In the pic, you can't make it out clearly but you can see James Morrison to the side looking round towards McLean and looks like he's having a giggle :smiley-laughing002: And big northern Ireland hun McCauley? In front of him..

The guy can hold his head high, no matter what any of them say, he stays true to himself and for what he believes in. That has to be respected..

im going to say two things:

1/ I respect a man who stands for his convictions

2/ this one is going to be less popular amongst all the anti-english posters in here (meaning about 99% of this forum): well done to england and to english people because in any other country this guy would've been kicked out after the poppy thing, In england the most hes getting after doing the same thing several times and an english club paying his wages, its a bit of abuse on twitter and a minor recrimination from his manager, whcih even if they got him out of the club would've stayed more than in any other country I can think of

Imagine latinamericans in spain doing that in la copa del rey final, coz you know spaniards massacred entire amerindian cultures, but the only ones who do that are other spaniards because no foreigner would dare. Same in the states, same in any other country I can think of, but because its in england you all clapped him with hands and feet. Can you imagine the english doing that everytime we play germany? double standards all around really

hopefully he can stay at the club and the fans dont get on his back too much, but make no mistake about it, no country would stand for this.
