Happy for him to have another year. Homegrown and succeeded under Rodgers before.

Said it in another thread but there's absolutely no way he should be getting game time this season over Vata (if he's not loaned out).

Forrest has been a great servant but it's time to move on. He's done.

He would be a lot more beneficial to us at Aberdeen or Hibs etc. He shouldn't be playing ahead of vata and we need a strong league to give a true reflection of the gap between us and SEVCO

im not impressed with the lack of signings it could be he finds his way back to being a first team regular

cant deny hes been a good player for us although i do think he could have been even better showed more promise than hes delivered always thought he lacked agility and was a bit one dimensional, needed more tricks

I think his days as a first team player are long gone, great servant and all that but we really need to be looking at bringing quality players in to improve the first team.

Jamesy would get plenty of gametime elsewhere, whether he would want away is another matter.

I think Forrest could still have a role to play, he did fairly well in the few games we saw him last season considering how long he'd been out. Put it this way, we need a new starter on the left and Abada's future is still up in the air, plus we've got our homegrown quota for the CL to meet. So he's going to be in the squad next year regardless.

Can’t see the club giving it the “One Club Man” patter just for him to leave after the testimonial. He’ll either take a reduced contract as he’ll never play or he’ll retire young and stick about the club in some capacity imo.

All roads lead to Paradise on Tuesday, August 1 with fans getting the opportunity to return to Celtic Park after a long summer as the Hoops play at home for the first time since sealing the Treble and, as if that wasn’t enough, it’s an opportunity to pay homage to the club's longest-serving player.

James Forrest takes centre stage when La Liga side, Athletic Club came calling to take part in his testimonial in our first game back at Celtic Park since Trophy Day.

The winger is starting his 15th season as a first-team player at Celtic and in that time has joined the elite of the club’s biggest legends in terms of longevity, games played, goals scored and medals won in one of the most electrifying and successful periods of the club’s history.

Hoping to play a part that night is Hoops keeper, Joe Hart, and the former England internationalist spoke at Lennoxtown today about the player’s humility and the occasion.

He said: “What a moment. I’ve not been on the journey with James, but I’ve certainly sat in the dressing room with him for the last two years and you wouldn’t think that this guy is one of the most decorated, one of the most successful players and a Quadruple Treble winner.

“He’s a superb person and one that I’ve loved sharing a dressing room with. There’s been big moments in the two years that I’ve been here, he’s had a few setbacks with injury but he’s always there, he’s always representing.

‘I think it’s amazing that the club and the real family feel of Celtic are able to celebrate someone like James Forrest as a person and as a player.’

“What a moment for himself and his family, and I really hope I’m going to be a part of it. It will be a great night.”

The winger has now spent the best part of two decades at Celtic and Hart is delighted that Forrest’s dedication is being celebrated.

He added: “Things change, you do well, you don’t do well, but James has obviously been hugely committed to Celtic Football Club.

“He’s been here since he was a young boy and he absolutely loves it, and he is loved.

“As I said, what a great opportunity. This is a moment to just enjoy the fact that good things are happening for a good person.”

Completely agree, if we are going to progress as a club there's no place for sentiment, we've had our use for him. Great player during Rodgers first period, niggling injuries in recent seasons, now nowhere near good enough for first team football with us now sadly.

One player who the manager wasn’t meeting for the first time was James Forrest, who piled on the appearances during the manager’s first spell in charge and, indeed, in scoring the first league goal of the Irishman’s reign, also scored the first goal of that Treble and the recent raft of Trebles.

That was against Hearts back in 2016, and the manager’s first game at Celtic Park in his new spell as manager will be in the James Forrest Testimonial.

The Hoops boss said: “James has been an absolutely brilliant ambassador and player for the club.

"I think that sometimes when you come through the system you maybe don’t quite get the accolades of some others, but when you play the number of games he has for Celtic, win the trophies that he’s won and still be as humble as he is, that’s a great testament to James and the type of person he is.

‘He was absolutely brilliant for me in my first time here, a very important member of the squad and he will be that again this time.’

“So I really hope for his testimonial game we get as many people there as we can, because you won’t see it too many times in the modern game – someone being at the club for so long.

“I think he’s worthy of getting that stadium full, and hopefully we can do that and that will be a great thing from every Celtic supporter and fan to him. And I think he’ll have a really good impact for us this season as well and going forward.”
