He was only with us for 10 years because no better clubs would have him. Now at his age, he knows he will never get the chance to play at a better club. So he * off to England after a hefty bonus ie. his testimonial profits.

i think our club is a disgrace. jackie is to good to let go. we need a whole new team. where will they find the money to replace him. give it a few years from now this club will go to ruin and we will end up as third force. the board room i feel is the main problem here its about time they show the money instead of lining there pockets with our money and who is the signing targets are we eventually going to go for has beens like andy cole again our clubs a joke and have been ripping us off for years.

so who do we believe - celtic or jackie? (regarding the effort made by celtic to keep him etc..)

get the impression Melissa is with the board.

in fairness he deserved the testimonial whether he was leaving or not i think.

Aye too right. Too many players blame everyone else for their decisions rather than admit they WANTED to leave. Celtic offered him a deal and they say it was improved. I don't even think he deserved an improved deal, what has he done thats so great? He's average.

i believe jackie i reckon celtic are trying to cover up an embarassing situation the man deserved a pay rise and the tight * did not give. jackie was integral to the team esp as he was our captain. the board can * themselves

He deserved every penny he got from the testimonial. He was one of the most loyal, consistent players we have had in recent times but was still one of the lowest paid at the club. Jackie was a true Bhoy unlike some of the mercenaries that have come and gone in the last decade.
There had better be some excellent news on the horizon or i can see a big fu**ing stick coming out!!

Well i can only remember one season he wasn't a regular. OK he may never have set the grass on fire but he and Lenny have been talking about these contracts for the past 4 months. Now is that not ripping the * out of it as usual by the board. Do you want him to go begging cup in hand?

But Im not asking how good he was at Celtic, Im asking who better could he have went to, as you said he was loyal. He is a decent player. No I don't want him going begging to the board, but it works both ways. The board should not have to beg a player to sign a new contract either. They should try extremely hard but not beg. At the end of the day if wee Jackie wanted to stay then he would and could have.

He WANTED to leave. (IMO btw )

Well why would he want to go to any other club but us? Would you? At the end of the day Melissa you are 100% right when you say we will go on but i am just * off at our dirty linen being washed in public every summer, and searching the web every morning for some good news.

Aye me too, but is it the board at fault here? Im not so convinced.

I don't feel the board are at fault here but that doesn't mean I love them or anything I think we should be pushing for other players.

The thing that annoys me most is we lose out to a Mid-table championship side...what does this say about Celtic? How can u expect to sign quality players if this is the attitude shown? I have a red face as I speak at the moment...it's an outrage!!!

McNamara signs for Wolves

Today Celtic Captain Jackie McNamara signed a two year contract at Wolves. I find this tragic as Celtic wanted to keep him and McNamara clearly wanted to stay, yet he has signed for a mid-table Championship team. McNamara won four SPL Championships, four Scottish Cups, two League Cups and played in a European final during his ten years at the club. I am devastated that such a quality player has left for nothing, yet I still can't understand his reasoning for leaving Celtic Park to go to the Molineaux. Am I the only Celtic fan to be so baffled by the whole situation?

Sorry to disagree Melissa, but Jackie was old school, loyal, hard working and fought with his heart on his sleave for his club. Can't blame Jackie in this day , when there is so much uncertainty, he is only looking after his family. Why was Berkovic payed so much money, for 20 odd appearances, Jackie made close to 350, played any position that was asked of him, and never went to the press when things didn't go his way. Jackie can leave Celtic with his head held high, the Board are a disgrace!!!! Don't want to see any more badge-kissing mercenanries at CP either, but our targets so far are poor options, mostly unproven in europe.

Jackie McNamara is made for life, money wise, so their is no problem there. If he never got another club he could have retired and lead a comfortable life. Jackie was offered a deal and didn't want it. So he took another option, and good luck to him. But he can't blame the board.

All I can say is well done Celtic - just lose one of our best players. How many more times does this need to happen before the board get there act together?
