Celtic outcast Jack Hendry will be offered the chance to make his loan deal at KV Oostende permanent this summer.

The 25-year-old struggled to hold down a regular spot in the Hoops starting line-up, but has been a stand-out at the back for the Belgian side.

Oostende sporting director Gauthier Ganaye has now revealed the Jupiler Pro League club plan to exercise their option to make the deal permanent, and hope to convince the Scotland cap that it's the right move for him.

Ganaye told the club website when asked about Hendry: “We have a loan with a purchase option.

"If we take that option and we can convince him, he will stay with us longer. Then we have to see what we can do for each other.

In any case, Jack feels good about himself here.

Given his excellent performances, I hope that we can convince him that KVO is the step for him to the national team and to a further beautiful football future. ”

Reports suggest Celtic will make a £250,000 profit on the £1.5m they spent to prise him from Dundee back in 2018 if the transfer goes through.

Much as he was rank for us in the past, I would be all for giving him another shot. It looks like he has found a bit of form in a league that must be similar to SPL so he should be able to cut it now, as he seems to have improved.

I know what you mean but if Welsh can do OK over the next part of the season Hendry's time here has likely gone.

I can just imagine that if Ajer goes him being the replacement would not be a positive experience for anyone.

The thing is we need quite a few centre backs in. Jullien and Welsh can't be our only pair. We've played 6 people at centre back this season alone. We need at least 3 in on top of them.

    No chance.

He started his career as a right winger and it shows. He completely lacks the natural aggression a CB should have (Bitton does as well)

Fair play to the boy if Belgium is going well. There's every chance their league is more technical & less physical and that's why he's flourishing. We need to bring in 3 proper quality CBs in the summer if Ajer goes.

We’ll likely be going into next season with a defensive line consisting of Welsh, Julien and Taylor. I’m not even sure what the backup options are there.

He should be given another opportunity here unless we get an offer that is too good to turn down. We have an absolutely massive rebuilding job to do next year, in defence moreso than any other area of the pitch arguably. If we have a guy playing well on loan in a better league, in a position that needs both numbers and quality, then we should be giving him the chance to impress here.

Hoping that Hendry will perform better here just because he had a good season in Belgium is that kind of thing that will cost us the sencond league in a row. Especially if the other defenders staying are Welsh, Julien and Taylor ffs. We need 5 solid defenders in to not get into a disaster again. 2 RBs, 1 LB and 2 CBs if we wanna have a somehow solid defence. Welsh could come OK but I don't want another Forrest situation where we're out of players in a position just down to poor recruitment. Hendry may would do alright but that's a high risk to take, knowing our * management would then just lay back and wouldn't bring in a better CB.

And I’m hoping Taylor and Welsh will be the back up options

Ideally, but realistically we’re going to need 2 rights backs, 2 centre back, at least 1 left back and probably a goalkeeper. That’s before we get into looking at the midfield, wide areas, or up top.

Just makes sense to me to give a guy already in the books a chance when we’ve got a monumental rebuild ahead of us.

I agree. I'm more concerned about getting the rebuild right than winning titles at this point.

Having a backbone of decent younger players and improving or replacing them as we get the structure right is definitely something that I think would be beneficial longer term.

I would rather have Jack than Duffy.
Now we have a center half crisis on our hands after Walsh injury, could we recall him?

Unless it is an emergency you cannot change registration. The reality is we should have brought in another cb during the window with Jullien out and El Hamed (who has covered cb) leaving

Yes, should have brought in a center half, could have picked up someone from SPL that would do a job. Just get the impression its Lenny being stubborn again regarding Duffy, who we all know cannot cut it.

It shows you the scale of the rebuild when people are considering him even as backup...

Nice one Brendan, he really was trying to sabotage us..

With Ajer off and Jullien out longterm we need to sign 3 CBs..

We also need better backup than Bitton, but may need to keep him for another season given the scale of what's required.
