Celtic have completed their ninth signing of the summer transfer window, adding Emilio Izaguirre to the first team squad. The Honduras international left-back has signed a three-year deal at the club after agreeing a £580,000 move from Motagua.

Izaguirre arrived in Scotland on Sunday to finalise talks and undergo a medical. With the formalities now completed, the 24-year-old will challenge Charlie Mulgrew for a first team spot, pending the player receiving a work permit.

With Celtic only able to include one extra player in their squad for the Europa League play-off double header against FC Utrecht, Neil Lennon has chosen to instead include fellow recent recruit Daniel Majstorovic in the pool to cover for Jos Hooiveld, who is injured.

"He trained today," Lennon said of his new recruit.. "He won't play tomorrow but should be available for selection after that. He's a good player. He's strong defensively, he's quick, he's got a very good left foot and he's good going forward.

"He had a good World Cup for Honduras. [Full-back] is an area we've been looking to fill for a while. We've taken our time with this one and we think we've got the right one."

The full-back had also been tracked by MLS side Toronto, and had revealed he had lined up for a move to Wigan Athletic, who had an agreement in place with his club. However, the Latics' interest was dependent on outgoing players and they did not exercise their option, freeing the player up to move to Scotland.

Izaguirre came to the attention of Celtic during the World Cup, appearing twice for his country in their group matches against Spain and Chile. The 44-times capped international has scored once for Honduras, having made his debut in 2007.

“I will not waste this opportunity at Celtic,” Izaguirre said of his impending move on Sunday night. “I am ready for the challenge and very happy because I have now fulfilled my dream of playing overseas.

“Celtic are one of the biggest teams in Britain and known throughout the world. I’m going to achieve the ambition of a lifetime by signing for a huge team.

“The move to Celtic will make me a better footballer. My agent has worked very hard to get me a move to a big European club. I know I will be a success in Europe. I just want to go and play for Celtic and show what I can do.”

Lenny has done us wonders this transfer window, I'd say all we need now is a new no.1 keeper and we've got an extremely strong team on our hands!

He looked good at world cup so hopefully he will bring that to The Hoops and for a good price, I am suprised how bad Charlie has started this season hopefully he will find his confidence again.
